I don't get sick out there... (that is... unless the rare occasion the bottle got the best of me the night before...) And when I do, it usually starts with acid reflux (heartburn). I have found that just chewing on a couple antacid tablets in the morning makes it all better (and eating a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast). I've never needed antacids or anything else on the water. As a matter of fact, a couple liverwurst/onion/mustard/cheese sandwiches hit the spot pretty good out there!

Bro try Phenergan, it's persciption only and you can take it once you are sick, or feeling sick.  It is better because it give you a chance to get your body use to it. You don't have to take it hours before. I read it in men"s health saying that it didn't have the side effects. I tried it and it was way better.

i like to follow my strict diet of cheap booze and or beer then stay up too late and wake up early to go fish without eating breakfast.  Never failed me to not get sick!  :P

Hi,
Fortunately I do not get sea sick but have spent much time on boats with people that do. The consensus from several friends who do get sea sick is that Scopalamine transdermal patches seems to work better than dramamine, bonine ect. and does not cause as much drowzyness. Unfortunately these are only available by prescription now. I commercialy harvested Kelp with a guy in Monterey/Santa Cruz and he would get sick every day we went out. He did find relief by smoking a couple of bowls of green ;D

So far I've never had motion sickness (knock on wood), but I have not kayaked much on 'big water'.  never had an issue on anything else, so hopefully when I get out of the Sound it won't be a problem.  My wife, tho, has gotten seasick on a floating restaurant in Vancouver.  She can't use the scopalamine patches due to the hallucinations (yep, she's one of the very few getting that side-effect) and headaches.  Ginger makes her sick, so we're hoping the Meclizine and those 'sea bands' will be enough for our cruise to Alaska later this month.

I'm really curious about the full stomach vs. empty stomach part of the conversation. I have always assumed an empty stomach is better and acted accordingly, only have a very light (if any) breakfast, and occasionally a Cliff Bar or similar on the water as I get hungry. Are you guys serious that you eat a large breakfast on purpose?

I'm just going to throw in here one more shout for the wrist bands. Don't knock them until you try them. I didn't believe they'd make any difference but they've been amazingly effective in various situations (stomach flu, eating bad food at restaurant, etc.).

Ginger does it for me...the wife bought me different types last time I went out on 4-5ft seas, and had 0 issues trying up rigs while looking down at the yak.

took 1 ginger pill 1hr prior to fishing
then chewed on 3 pieces of ginger gum as I went out for the day

worked perfectly!

Perhaps I should clarify that I don't eat a massive breakfast but usually try and eat like a bagel with cream cheese (or two) or a couple of cliff bars before I get on the water. Slow burning carbs, oatmeal would also be good but I never have the time to prepare it before hitting the water. I generally try and avoid a big greasy meal but we'll often stop at mcdonalds and I'm not sure I notice a big difference when we do. I think my stomach feels much better when it has something in it vs when it's empty. I'm not sure if the process of getting nauseous produces more stomach acid, but it certainly feels like it does. Having some food in there to absorb it seems to help a lot. I also seem to have a pretty fast metabolism so eating a cliff bar every couple of hours really helps to keep my energy level going. I'm not sure if my routine would work for everyone but it's what works for me. I've also tried the bands but they didn't seem to do much for me.

You can not go wrong with a bacon egg and cheese McGriddle and a Large coffee with 5 creams from McD's. It sticks to the ribs and keeps you going all day.  Works for me.  I have never got sick using this method.

Actually, the only time I ever got close to getting sick was tying on new gear on a rough day.  Since then I put a snap swivel on my braid and I clip on pre-tied mono leaders.  Haven't had a problem since.

Ginger Snaps for sure!!! Just make sure they have real ginger in them. Nothing like a bite of ginger snaps out in the ocean with the smell of fish on your hands, does it get any better?

I gotta believe it is the new guy at the ad agency that gets to do the work for those accounts... I mean, how do you market such a product effectively... it will always be funny, always.
