Scop patches work great for some, but they do not work for me.  Makes me feel dizzy, confused, and high.

I feel like that doesn't sound so bad to some people.  ;D

I was a wreck on my first day on the salt and puked my guts out, only to make Rawkfish and my day on the water REALLY short (1.5 hours) compared to what I have been able to pull now (8 hours straight).   The ocean has a way of churning the gut to a frenzy and I am a light weight.

Tried Drem = fail!
Tried empty stomach or really light breakfast = fail!
Tried candied gingerm = fail!
Tried Motion Eaze = some temporary results.

Then!!!!

One of the first and greatest things I learned from our own Ron Sauber was that he could not go on the salt on any day without his meds.  He HIGHLY recommended Scopace which is by prescription only, a pill, and much more controlled dose of the Scopolamine patch.  He also said to take one an hour before launch, and about every 4 hours on the water.  One Scopace pill is supposed to work 6-8 hours, so overlapping them to keep the effects solid.  Ron also recommended oatmeal for breakfast, and then PB and honey sammich on the drive to the beach.

After getting hooked up with Scopace and following the advice given from Ron, I can eat a normal breakfast, drink coffee on the way to the launch, tie leaders and jigs on the water, and basically stick my head in my hatch and bob around in the ocean with no issues.  Scopace can cause some blurriness with some folks, as well as cotton mouth.  Ron said he got mild cotton mouth and just drinks water and chews gum.  I haven't felt any side effects other than AWESOME!

If I forget to followup on my pill intake while on the water, and the current dose wears down I will heave like green weenie and just wish I could die.

I keep about 20-30 in a waterproof match container in my PFD at all times!!!!

Thanks Ron!

I'm really curious about the full stomach vs. empty stomach part of the conversation. I have always assumed an empty stomach is better and acted accordingly, only have a very light (if any) breakfast, and occasionally a Cliff Bar or similar on the water as I get hungry. Are you guys serious that you eat a large breakfast on purpose?

I'm just going to throw in here one more shout for the wrist bands. Don't knock them until you try them. I didn't believe they'd make any difference but they've been amazingly effective in various situations (stomach flu, eating bad food at restaurant, etc.).
Perhaps I should clarify that I don't eat a massive breakfast but usually try and eat like a bagel with cream cheese (or two) or a couple of cliff bars before I get on the water. Slow burning carbs, oatmeal would also be good but I never have the time to prepare it before hitting the water. I generally try and avoid a big greasy meal but we'll often stop at mcdonalds and I'm not sure I notice a big difference when we do. I think my stomach feels much better when it has something in it vs when it's empty. I'm not sure if the process of getting nauseous produces more stomach acid, but it certainly feels like it does. Having some food in there to absorb it seems to help a lot. I also seem to have a pretty fast metabolism so eating a cliff bar every couple of hours really helps to keep my energy level going. I'm not sure if my routine would work for everyone but it's what works for me. I've also tried the bands but they didn't seem to do much for me.

Thanks, I appreciate the info! I've always gone with light/no food but I think I might try some oatmeal or something next time. It is certainly fatiguing to not have breakfast before a workout.
