I'll be square dancing in Pendalton thru the 15th of Aug then I've got until the 20th when I check in at Sunset to fish Roy's get together. I know yall are spending your thinking time on the ORC which I can't make, but I would be open to damn near anything where I could hook up with one or more of yall on my route which is really lose rite now. I was looking at the Columbia, willy or whatever even some off shore north of Depoe. Let me know if there are any possibilities so I can try to figure out that part of my trip. Art

There should be some estuary salmon fishing starting up right about then. I got the fish in my picture on August 14th last year.

That's my bucket list fish for this trip, I really had hoped to find someone who could show me the ropes about salmon fishing there. I will need terminal tackle after yall tell me what I need but I'll have to buy it there. I've caught salmon from a drift boat on the Rouge but not from the yak yet. I hope to get hold of some of yall in Aug when I'm traveling. What estuary are you talking about. Art

 Hey Art,
Too bad you can't make it to ORC this year. But Roy's tourney should be a kick.
For the time frame you'll be here, salmon will be entering or staging in every estuary on the west coast.
Salmon fishing isn't hard ... a 4 oz banana weight and a plug cut herring is probably the best and easiest.
I hope to see you in Coos Bay.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

All of them probably. That was the Siletz. I'm no expert but big spinners and plug cut herring behind a flasher are what I've learned so far. Pretty standard methods for the coastal bays.

Hey Art,  have you caught a sturgeon yet?  If you're interested, we can make that happen in the PDX area.  And, I can give you that magazine I still owe you.....  :-\  Depending on conditions and timing, I might be able to join you guys for some Tillamook Bay chinook action in early August.

Here's a short video I posted of salmon fishing in Tillamook Bay last year.

Mark, I have caught lake sturgeon in Mn and Canada but in a PB not a kayak. I thought I might try to get hold of you as I'm coming thru your area. Salmon is really my target for this trip. I'll have a few days between the 17th and Roy's AOTD, and I thought I may try further north. Tillamook looks good but I'll go wherever there is someone to fish with. Seems like if the Salmon are staging there will be several folks willing to take an outsider with them. I'm also looking forward to seeing that magazine. HA. Art

Art, you're my role model man. If I make it to your age and I have half as many irons in the fire as you have, I'd say I was doing alright. :-)

Hell, getting old is easy, just keep getting up in the AM and take a deep breath and just keep doin that. Also I was told at a very young age that time on the water with a pole in your hand don't count. All kidding aside I have no idea what gives one person a lot of good years and another less or poor health or whatever. I just take what comes my way, and I'm hoping that includes a salmon on this trip to Oregon. Art

Art,

As you make your way from Pendleton towards the coast, I'm sure we can find a bit of time to get after some salmon on the Columbia.

Hey Art,

I am in the Portland Area also and am heading to Sunset Bay. Give me a shout when you come through. I am thinking Tillamook Bay as the likely spot.

And people wonder why we are sometimes called one of the friendliest fishing groups on the internet. This is a prime example why.

For those who don't know, Art is one of our resident non residents and really a great guy
2 years ago ( I think) he came to ORC and took 2nd place.

As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

The salmon should be happening in the Coos at that time. Roy could hook you up with that. Also, the Umpqua should also be offering up some nooks at that time.

Looking forward to seeing you again at Sunset Bay!
