How bad is it on the hull to pull a yak a short distance on the sand say 20-30 yards with all your gear on it?

Your back will give out first.

Carry your boat down, then carry your gear down in a plastic tote or a wagon from a yardsale.

Or get wheels.

I made a set of granny walker wheels they work great  empty but when I put my gear and crate in they seam to hit the yak as it has a relatively flat bottom. I can put them on the nose and go backwards but it's a little heavy.
Short story I live 50 yards or so from the waters edge in the bay. So a 30 yard slight down hill in the field of grass then a short drag to the water. So two trips ain't that far. Cosmo knows the drag I'm talking.

The hull will be fine.  No problem with dragging across sand.  It's just a pain in the ass with a bunch of gear loaded on.

I used to drag my t13... Down to the water loaded wasn't too bad. Back was a killer. The sand should be hard on your hull. Sharp rocks and shells... Those are hard. Do yourself a favor... Get some wheels. It's worth it.

It's a good idea to stretch before dragging a heavy kayak BTW.

Sometimes the cart is a real pain in the ass to use with all your gear on your kayak. I find it to be easier to carry my kayak up and down this path and then take the rest of my gear in a couple of trips.

This is me using my cart to transport my kayak and gear back to my car.

I think my calves have finally loosened up from our Devils Punch Bowl episode years ago.  That sucked for at least a week after.   :tard:

Used my wheels till they bogged in the sand then just pulled it the rest of the way, ain't that a bitch?  I will be launching from the lot at the fish station cuz walking in the wet sand with your feet sinking and a bad hip is a freakin pain in the azz

Very true.  On a 9-day kayak trip in Alaska, we launched on the McLaren River, ran down the Susitna to about 10 miles above the Devil's Canyon, portaged about 4 miles with 650 feet of altitude gain over to Stephan Lake, and then floated down Prairie Creek to the Talkeenta River, and came out at Talkeetna.  The portage was to avoid running the Devil's Canyon, which provides more Class V excitement than we were willing to take on.  I dragged my loaded kayak on the portage. I was totally pooped, but my kayak (a Prijon Tornado) handled the portage just fine.  Of course, the portage was almost entirely over moss, with few rocks.
