So, my older brother asked me this question last night.

Why, given all the options, did you choose a kayak to fish out of.  A 16 ft aluminum boat makes more sense?

My answer was simple.  I can launch from anywhere, have no environmental impact, and I am the exact opposite of the 24 foot sled crew,  I want to be quiet, stealthy, and clean.

Why did you all pick a kayak?

Better to fish anytime anywhere.  No gas, maintenance, or registration. Quieter

I love to fish can get farther then a float tube and ain't seen a pb yet that don't leak some kind of pollutant in the water or air. I also needed the exercise and piece and quiet.

we have a light weight 16' aluminum PB with low impact (3 AGM batteries so lots of electric push) and I can launch/recover it alone just fine if I want to go out with just my dog but it is better for 3 to go fishing/crabbing...it is an "anywhere but the ocean" boat.

I added kayaks to get out on the water solo many more days each year with basically no impact and also to get out into the ocean.  I expected that fishing from a kayak would put me more in contact with the water and surroundings and I was right, it is fantastic...roger

X2  I have a powerboat with all the bells and whistles and it's great to go out with friends and family but for solo fishing I much prefer the yak.

solitude, connection to the water (feel it, smell it, taste it), ease of maintenance.  And what Spot said.

I travel a lot for work and never know what kind of waters I will encounter. The kayak allows me to fish pretty much anywhere at anytime, regardless of a lot of variables.

1. I'm cheap.
2. What Spot said: it's more fun.
3. I like the versatility.
4. I like the do-it-yourself-ness of making kayak doodads to go with.
5. I can't hang a power boat as easily from my ceiling.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

I've been a kayaker most of my life,  fisherman my adult life. Turns out putting the two together is even more fun than either one separately

I'm a kayaker first, still learning how to fish.

Fisherman and hunter first, kayaker second. Health issues limited my ability on dry ground. Whereas, kayaking expanded my range beyond belief.
