Hello from Australia.

So for 10 days in early August I'll be paddling a kayak in BC, from Bella Bella south, through the Hakai area, and back to Bella Bella. It's not really a fishing trip, more of a tour with my girlfriend, but I'll definitely have a rod in. I've heard this is peak salmon season, and Hakai Pass is the place to be - if I can't catch something I'll be devastated.

So, I have no idea of the best way to target the fish. Taking fresh bait on a 10 day unsupported trip is not very possible. I generally prefer to fish soft plastics or lures on lighter tackle when possible anyway. I've got a bunch of questions - and I probably don't even know all the questions I need to ask, so any advice appreciated.

-Lure selection, what works? Somewhere I can buy them online get them before I leave in a month?
-I'll have a single travel rod and a spinning reel. Either a 2-4kg rated that will cast up to 30g, or a heavier 3-6kg model that can throw heavier weights easier. Which would be best? Or something else entirely?

-What about tactics? There seems to be lots of talk about downriggers. I'm hiring a kayak, so there's no chance of that kind of kit.

-What else should I know? I do realise that I need to get a license, so I'll read up on the local regulations while I'm at it.
