Don't drive in reverse, you might flip the rig!

I just couldn't keep it upright today.

It was near Cannon beach. I was surprised that I didn't loose anything.  Only thing that left the boat besides me was my net and it floats. I have little bungie nets over my crate and crab pot.  The rods are just sitting in PVC tubes in my milk crate.  I forgot how far over that opposite handle is and had to feel around for it, but once you shift your weight back it flips right up.  All in all it was good practice, and no harm done.

Cannon Beach is a tough break to punch through! The one time I tried it it required more than one attempt. Though coming in got us to the beach it was not graceful either.

Nice video!  But to avoid getting trundled like you did, work on bracing with your paddle into the foam to stabilize your kayak, and shifting your weight towards the foam to keep your leading edge up as the foam pushes you towards the shore. To get a feel for how to do this, search for YouTube videos on kayak side surfing or surf kayaking and watch what the kayakers do when they get turned sidewise in the foam.  Videos showing sea kayaks or sit-on-top fishing kayaks in surf will be more helpful than videos showing whitewater kayaks in holes on a river, because whitewater kayaks are much shorter and more maneuverable than sea kayaks and fishing kayaks, but the principles of side surfing are the same with both kinds of kayak.  There is a pretty good video on how to side surf a fishing kayak at

Great re-entry. Wasn't as cool as the exit. ;D  After watching this, I realized I have never flipped a yak out on the water.  Every time I have been dumped, I realized early on there was no turning back and just went with it. Oh, and knock on wood.

Not a bad call .............  BTDT.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Yeah Cannon Beach can be challenging, but it can be fishy. I actually was thinking I'd stay upright but relaxed before it was done with me.  I didn't stay out long since there was a strong southerly current and wind in the same direction.  My kayak is a bit of a sailboat/barge.  Soon to get a revo 13 to help with that problem.
