I was thinking about trying out the ocean kayak in Pacific city sometime this weekend and was wondering if anybody was going to be there? I'm new to ocean kayaking but am staying at cape kiwanda and figured If the weather and waves are in my favor I'll try it out.

Don't get your hopes up.  This Saturday is the annual tournament in Depoe Bay.  I doubt anyone close enough to hit PC would be skipping the ORC.  Come on out to Depoe Bay.  Even if you can't be an official contestant (I think registration may be closed, not positive though) it'll be a great time to get some experience with LOTS (like 120) of other kayakers around you.

Yeah unfortunately you're probably out of luck, but who knows, there are kayak fisherman that fish out of PC that aren't part of NWKA.

Looks like a near-perfect day Saturday for you. Have fun, keep safe!

If you have a wetsuit or appropriate dry gear, there's no reason you can't go for a solo paddle Saturday.  Conditions should be excellent and next to the headland should be about as flat as it gets.  If you're uncomfortable, stay close to the land.  If you get the chance, try your hand at pushing out thru waves, surfing back in and getting back into your yak in the surf.  It's actually a lot of fun.  ;D

Spot makes good points per usual.

Also I'm not committed to it at all but my wife and I have been talking about hitting PC on our way back to Portland Sunday. It depends on many factors so I won't know until late Saturday probably, but if you see a red tandem out there Sunday feel free to come say hi or join us.

I was debating doing the same. If I don't snag up all my gear in depoe on Saturday.

Let's talk Saturday night. I've got enough gear for a small army :) And this time I have my own GPS so I don't have to follow you around  ;D

I'll be in PC Saturday night/Sunday too.   But I'll be surfing on Sunday, you'll see my yak on my truck.  Feel free to park next to me if you want but I won't be on the dory side of the beach.

The swell will be smallish and at 16 seconds so it will be great for practicing your launches/returns!

Well if you come over to PC you'll definitely be doing some harvesting! :)
