***Disclaimer***My video editing skills are not that great and if you just want to see the bigger Ling I caught instead of just watching the whole thing then skip toward the end.

So I missed signing up for the ORC so I figured I would skip the crowd and just fish PC on Saturday. There weren't many kayakers but there were a ton of dory boats. It was pretty foggy at first so I waited a while to launch and started fishing around 7:30am after dropping one crab pot.

It was really slow. I started at the NW corner of the rock and moved to the kelp beds. After a while I got an undersized ling. A while later I lost my grip and turned my spool into a rats nest. I decided to let it out and peddle to try to untangle and while doing that, I hooked a black but had to bring it in by hand.

After switching rods, I decided to head North and see what I could find. After a while, I found another black but just couldn't get them in any number. I found some structure even with the yellow marker bouy and caught a 24 inch ling. I kept fishing that area as I was periodically getting hits but couldn't get them to stick. Then I got another fish on and started reeling. It didn't seem very big but then I couldn't reel any more and line just started stripping out like crazy. After a couple minutes, I got it to the top and saw that I had a rock fish on my top hook and a big Ling below it. I prepped to net it but it dove down and stipped out some more line. I brought it back up and the black was gone but I was able to net the big guy (barely as you will see in the video).

I went back and checked my crab pot and only had three crabs with one keeper but I guess that's better than none. We are having crab chowder and Ling Cod tonight.

Ling was 36 inches long-didn't weigh it.

I also trolled around a little bit for Salmon but it was too foggy to troll very far so I mostly focused on bottom fishing. Even though it was a pretty slow day, that Ling was the biggest I have caught so I was pretty happy. Next year I am going to make sure I sign up earlier for the tournament though.
