Hello kayakers!  I'm new to the forum and pretty new to kayaking. I have a Hobie Oasis and I'm trying to get back into fishing. I bought the tandem Oasis to accommodate my wife and I, but I use it more solo. I'm wondering if any Oasis owners on here launch at PC from the beach solo?

I launch a tandem Jackson paddle kayak but it's a whole different animal. I do know that a few of the guys use water jugs as ballast for the missing person. I'm just not sure if they launch PC. I will be out there Tuesday if you want to give it a go.

Sherman and Sam M both launch them at PC without issue. Hopefully they will chime in soon.

As Noah said, there are several here that have/do launch at PC with the Oasis.  I've only done it solo - from the front cockpit.  And yes, I do ballast the rear with a 5 gallon water jug to help keep the rudder in the water more consistently.

I've taken my Oasis out to PC several times - it is very doable. First time I tried, I started out from the rear, and found that it was impossible for me to launch through the surf. I switched to the front position and had much better luck. I now fish exclusively from the front.

Thanks for the help, guys.  I'd love to try it tomorrow but duty calls elsewhere.

Sherminator, that is a great story. Thanks for sharing.

I hadn't really thought about soloing from the front.

If you go over to the Hobie website forums, you will find out that the majority of solo Oasis fishermen fish from the front. The weight distribution is way better that way. Also, when I go tandem with my wife, I regularly sit in front, as that way I catch the spray, jump out at the beach first, etc. The view from the rear cockpit is completely foreign to me now. Enjoy your yak and get out there at PC when you feel you're ready.
