Yes. Thank you for the great seminar. And to Hoggs for hosting. Is it possible to get the info on the battery you are using for your Kayak again? I can't seem to find it under the Enzo name. Thanks!

I think you want to try "Anker Battery" on Amazon.  We had some discussion about them on this site last year.

I don't find mine online anymore.  It's an EZOPower 15000mAh.  There are lots of similar products out there though.

Careful, the pack at the above link appears to only have a 5V output option. (unless I'm missing something) If true, then it probably won't power most fish finders.

I agree.  That model doesn't support the 12V output.

more info on the battery thang...i have the ezo 10000mah and use it for my elite hdi....takes forever to charge with cig lighter in the car(found that  out at the orc, it never got to full charge )...few hours on the wall charger tho for full charge, after a days fishing...say around 6am till 2ish? the battery goes from full charge to little less then half.when fishing i mainly use both sonar and the dsi display, i never turn it off when out as the battery will auto shut off after 30? seconds. and don`t like opening battery box out there as am afraid of what could happen if battery got wet. as for worth it with compactness of battery and box so far no issues and really glad i went with the li-po. do urself a favor and get 2...one for backup in a drybag.

Thanks for the great info. The seminar was great!.
Spot, you gave me some advice to try drift mooching the church hole and the blind channel (washington side upriver from bridge) this weekend. I was planning on going tomorrow when the high tide is at 5:23AM and the low is 11:32AM. I'm thinking of putting in a knappton at around 8 to 9AM and drifting those holes with the ebb tide (to chinook point area) and then drifting back on the flood tide. Good plan?

Also, this is my first time mooching with herring. Any tips? Am I reeling and releasing to keep my bait 5 to 15 feet off the bottom. I have a fishfinder so let me know if that helps determine appropriate target depth. Tips on avoiding tangles (herring to mainline).

Thanks for bringing a newbie along. I just want to optimize my fishing time. Hopefully I'll get beyond the basics quickly. Any help is appreciated.

  jschloff,

The church hole is a pretty long ways away from Knappton by water. Also be very careful from Dismal Nitch down to the bridge-- the current can really rip through that area. So much so that I personally wouldn't even consider going there.  Plenty of good water above the bridge. I would suggest you fish from Knappton to the "shipwreck" and stay away from the bridge. Just my 2 cents.
Take 4 to 6 oz weights when mooching your herring. That should be enough to keep you near bottom if you are targeting Chinook and working with the tide. If you go against the tide you will need more weight. Higher up is fine for coho. Tangles from mainline to herring shouldn't be a problem unless you are making really tight turns. Then ---maybe.
  Good luck out there.

Agreed, don't go past the bridge. The ebb tides in the Columbia River mouth mouth are no joke. Try to make your area covered small for the first few times you're experiencing this fishery until you get a feel for what the currents/winds/boat traffic are like. It is not a forgiving place.

The outgoing current under the bridge tomorrow morning will be roughly 3 knots. Yikes.

Like rawkfish said, keep your range smaller until you know what to expect.  The area between knappton and the shipwreck is really good water.
If you want to fish the church hole, there are a couple of spots where you can pull over and throw your yak in the water nearby.  Just take it in small chuncks until you're familiar.

For mooching the deeper slots, I'm running a 2 to 3 oz bananna weight with a 4 ft leader.  Open spool to 10 to 15 pulls (marked with a bobber stop).  Close spool and wait a couple of seconds, long/slow sweep up, pause, slow drop back down.  If you get bit, let the fish chew for a while before tightening up the line.
Since you have pedal power, maybe you "trooch" (powered mooching) facing upstream in spots to spend more time covering the area.  The forward momentum with bring your bait up.  Stop pedaling and it drops back down.

PS I don't mind running under the bridge.  It's much easier close to Desdemona Sands.  The extreme Washington side is one of those pinch points I mentioned in the seminar.  Stay way from that narrow secion of deep water if you pass thru.

Knappton to shipwreck it is - only I cant find a reference to shipwreck on any map. Can someone give me pointers (Lat/Lon)? Is the timing I mentioned ideal - go with the tide between 9AM and 1PM or so? Also, where did you find the current is 3 knots? I use BouyData app but I'm not sure what current station to use.

Wreck of the USS Plainview: 46°15'24.6"N 123°51'05.4"W

Currents I use are on Fishweather.com under "Tides".  The closest current spot for that area is Point Ellice (where the bridge meets the WA side of the river).

Yesterday at Buoy 10 was pretty dead.  Didn't see a net fly on the Oregon side.  Going to hit the ocean instead tomorrow.
