Ok, maybe it has some relevance to kayak fishing. lol.    I'm giving the fish a week or two to come closer to shore and if the fishing we found out by Cheval Island was any indicator, we could be in for a great coho year.  It sounds like the coho are in thick at Kachemak Bay as well.

So I need to get my son on fish.  He's had some good success with the early run sockeyes, but has been out three or four times in a row without much luck.  Weather seems iffy for kayaking.  So I decide I'd try and find him some pinks.  As we are headed out of Anchorage I get a call from one of my buddies saying "Hey!  I just passed you.  Where ya going?"  I answer "Pink fishing with my kid."  He says he is going to Seward with another friend, Sean, so how can I pass that up?

Get to Seward and its foggy and raining but no wind.  We head out past Caines Head and see a few dozen boats but only one hook up.  Seas look manageable, so we decide to head to Cheval Narrows.  In the exposed part of the bay, we found 4 to 6 foot waves that puckered us up a bit.  But we get there safely.

Anchor up, drop lines to 100 ft and it was nonstop action for two solid hours until we had limited out.  5 people plus a proxy fishing 4 rods managed 36 fish in 2 hours!  Amazing!  Nice big fish for early in the year as well.

Can't wait for these fish to get closer to shore.  Here's a mediocre video of the day.  Hard to video when seas are rough and it's raining.  The hardtop helped.   My son had a blast!

Awesome!!!! would love to do that!!! Water looked good where you were anchored. Can't wait to try mooching from the kayak later in the year.

Man--that's what fishing is all about...not the many many awesome fish you all caught, but the pride and joy the kid gets from it. (well...okay, the many many awesome fish help, too).   :-)  Nice video.

When are you planning on heading out in the kayak? I'm looking for people to tag along with.

Slow. Ran I to another kayak guy. He had one.   I lost one. Bottom fished a lot. No jumpers really yet.

Looks like fun and sounds like a productive trip.

Proxy fishing?  That's the first I've heard of that.  I'm guessing that's where you can catch fish for someone disabled or maybe elderly while they site comfortably at home.  I guess that makes sense in Alaska for subsistence folks.

Yup. Disabled or over 65. Fairly strict rules but it allows me to keep fishing and my parents get a significant portion of my fish anyways. Handy in Alaska where you have a few places where you catch your limit you have to stop fishing.

Kahuna Coho -- Saw that the silver prizewinner out of Seward this year was 17.67 lbs.  Nice! Too bad one of our kayak fishers didn't boat that $10K fish... ;)

Cool my father in law and I are headed to millers landing area. Try for silvers and halibut. See what happens.
