Today I went to the Chehalis river for the Maiden voyage of my "new to me" Slayer 12 kayak, mostly just explored, set up to fish for some cutthroat and on the first cast hooked into a very nice native chinook, after a long fight and a helpful netting from another paddler, I landed my first ever fish from a kayak! :spittake:
Gear was 7' light action Tica trout rod
Pflueger trion spooled w/4lb Izorline
#3 Brass "steelhead" by bud spinner
Video by my brother who was meeting me to check out the kayak!
Fish swam away strong.

Sorry about there not being a picture of the fish, after a decently long fight and netting it I really didn't want to stress it out to much more so it went back into the water asap. Next time, I think I may need a waterproof camera to take out.

 Congrats on your 1st fish
How high up on the Chehalis were you fishing ?
There will be a lot more salmon coming up pretty soon .
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

I hooked this fish just above the first set of rapids downstream of the skookumchuck river near centralia. I usually see a few scattered fish hitting our chehalis tributaries this time of year. I saw probably 50+ fish jump on sunday out there, lots of Chinook this year. Can't wait for the coho.
