I'm still (yes still) researching the perfect kayak for myself.  Has anyone taken a look at the new Jackson Kracken?  If so, opinions?

It looks interesting.  If it passes the test of the marketplace I might look seriously at picking one up.  Huge weight capacity and supposedly good for off-shore.

We should get a demo one up in Seattle this fall, but I'll suggest they get a demo down in Oregon too. Jackson is interested in promoting this kayak for the PNW as it fits our conditions, big water capable with a fast hull speed.

I'll post up as soon as I hear more. I'm hoping I can get one to bring to the Coho Classic on Sept. 6th.

Cool boat. I'm still stubbornly holding onto my paddle and look forward to another boat to try :)

I've already placed my order for one so hoping to get my hands on it ASAP!

 ;D

Ton of cool features, longer, narrower, faster...I'm excited!

Some good info on it here:

I'll let you guys know what I think once I get it out OTW and get it bloody.

 :)

Sincerely,

Jim

Is it just me or did they completely crop and photoshop out the kayak in the Sean White photo in "The Birth of the Kraken" article?  It's almost like they were trying to hide something in the OCEAN they were KAYAK-ing in.   ;D

Whatever do you mean?
I only see OCEAN, the KAYAK isn't even in the picture.  ;)
Funny how the waves in the bottom right repeat themselves with a hard line...  (Basically, they removed something where the waves are a bit blurry; perhaps a kayak seat if he was sitting side saddle. Most likely their newest Elite Seat.)

My bad. I thought this was from the earlier trip to Baja when it was all Ocean Kayak.  I was wrong.  It was from a Jackson trip. I humbly beg for the internet's forgiveness. I still wanna know why the picture looks like that.  Maybe a glitch in the matrix.

The internet has no soul and can't forgive; it must be run by a "Ginger". Ha ha

I think the Kraken fills a gap for Jackson, but how much market exists for this boat? A lot of us here in the NW are interested, but we don't represent a lot of dollars.

My unimportant thoughts on the boat itself:
-I like the layout; wish there were a 13' little brother in the works.
-The price point seems a bit high, but it does come with the JKrate, Ram rocket launchers, Plano box, and YakAttack bedazzlement.
-Optional rudder? Why isn't it standard?
-The neoprene hatch condom was both a good thought and a shame that the one hatch isn't good enough on it's own.
-I'd like to hear more regarding the leveling seat system.
-I wonder what Jim's previous sponsor thinks about it.
-"Kraken" is a BA name for the boat. Good one Jim!

Sure wish I could get a Jackson sponsorship.  The Kraken would make an awesome big-game hunting kayak, assuming it was available in camo.

Okay the hard line at lower right is removed.
What is that under his arm? Is that were something was photo-shopped out?

Don't apologize Craig, I've seen the whole series of photos from that 2013 trip and Sean is riding an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 (or possibly 15).

Word via the Jackson rep is that we won't likely see a Kraken in PNW until later in September or even October. Too much demand in other areas seems to be the reason.

It looked to me like the yak was photo-shopped out from beside and possiby behind while the front was more easily cropped out.  But those were my assumptions.  It could be just really bad photography. And really, my ramblings and curiosity got us off topic.  The Kraken actually looks pretty cool and I would love that seat.
