I think the method is called "trooching" by Spot-- it's trolling with the tide, but mooching.  I had 1oz of weight on a dropper with a whole shad (fresh/frozen from the Yaquina the previous week...no brine).  Must have been just a few minutes past high tide.

Later Tuesday afternoon I had quite a show with another 20+ pounder chasing fish on the surface maybe 10ft from the bow of my kayak.  The dorsal fin looked like Jaws with the wake it was pushing...could see the spots and the silvery side slab of another beautiful chinook.  Didn't have any other bites on Tuesday - but I owe the river about 80 hours now.

Beginners Luck implies that you have no idea what you're doing.
Yeah, there was some luck involved but it was beginners luck.

It must have been quite an ordeal to net and land that monster.  What an inspiring post.  Great job, thanks for sharing.

Way to go! It's not that the net is to small, it's that the fish is a pig and half.
