Has any body used deep 6's fishing for salmon? I tried today. I got down to 75 feet with it at Owens beach.

I have, but with my new 9 1/2 foot salmon rod, they put a lot of torque on my rod holder while trolling fast in the ocean for coho.  I switched back to 10 oz of lead and fared far better.

All three of us were using them to catch salmon in the ocean today.   They do produce a lot of torque,  but they also produce fish. :-)

That said,  very unlikely to catch Chinook worth them in the sound.

What would be a good set up without a down rigger for chinook in puget sound?

Mooch or jig if you don't have a DR

They work but from experience a kidney/banana weights has really worked well. They are plain, simple, and only a couple of bucks.

Good luck

Thanks wind in his hair. Just wondering, how much weight do you run and what do you run behind it?

5-6 oz on saltwater (Lincoln park) with 8" flasher & hoochie or a medium Big Als flash & coho killer. Both flashers achieves the right spin and able to target depths of 30-60 ft. efficiently. The fish experts at outdoor emporium puts it when you know there's a school of coho just run the spoon with the weight w/o flash.

A believer in the simple setup from productive outings with them targeting sockeye on Baker (with dodgers) and hopefully in the salt for coho.

Thanks wind in his hair. I will give it a go again with some changes. I'll report back on how it goes.

Got one packed for Kodiak!

Yup. They work well for searching out fish. Best to have a rudder. I'm packing a few myself. The bulkiest things though!!
