Got Roped into a vacation with the in-laws at Cape Kiwanda shores in mid September. Typically I don't fish there that time of year.
Is it better to go out into the ocean for salmon or attempt to fish in the Nestucca tide water.  If so any spots and or tactics to concentrate on in the Nestucca tide water. (not familiar with the river) only the ocean.  I typically spend that time of year wobbler fishin the Columbia...........
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think that either option would give you a pretty decent opportunity.  The non-selective coho season may still be open depending on if the quota gets fill. ;)

thanks,
Have always had good luck for salmon straight out toward the Can. Will have to just nut it up and try something new on the river if the ocean doesn't cooperate. Was also told than near the mouth on the edge of the surf line is a good spot to troll herring for chinook, but that came from a power boater.
Anybody kayak that area.

I'm far from being an expert but we stay at Cape Kiwanda RV Park quite a bit and I've fished the Nestucca tidewater in that area a couple times from my kayak.  There are a few places within a few minutes of where you're staying that you might check out.

Just before you come into PC on Brooten Road, you'll pass a small gravel boat launch on your left that's right next to the "Guardrail hole".     It's an easy kayak launch and  you can fish that stretch or  paddle down into the Bay if you want.

On Sunset Dr. (cross the little bridge and turn left) on the way toward Bob Straub State Park there is a nice city boat ramp with a big parking lot.   If there are fish coming in there will be a bunch of folks standing on the rock spit next to the boat ramp either casting spinners or bobber/eggs.    Sometimes power boats anchor on the far side of the river to fish the slot there and I've seen kayaks out there doing the same a time or two in the same area.  Easy place to launch and you can easily paddle upriver or downriver from there.

Further up Brooten across from the grocery store, there is a little shop that rents kayaks.  There's a tiny little boat ramp next to it (Mugg County Park).
