went out saturday at depoe bay, there was a line of sporties all way up hill to  the hwy. well all i need is a parking spot as i have a cart that i use to roll yak to ramp. so i bypass all go down find a spot and this guy comes up and asked if i was going to permanently park there, i said "uh yes"? he says "what makes u think u can pass everyone else? i told him i am not using the ramp and first come first serve? he walks away comes back and say if first come first serve all those u passed were here first.... i then said look buddy i am not waiting in a line for all to get there boats in the water and then park when i like i just told u am not using ramp to get my yak off all i need is a parking spot and u think i should wait in line for all to get boats off their trailer and then park it??? he then comes back and asked if i knew of the guy that kayaks on opb  tv?(which i don`t) and said it was yaker like me that makes him look bad??   ...something like that, i almost started laughing.

ok, was i wrong? what would u have done?

The only thing I would have done is ask him what he thinks you should do.  Maybe he would then think about it more from your position.  If he suggested you park up on the highway then it's likely he's just jealous and venting, because that's not reasonable. It's just like commuting by bicycle passing all the cars sitting in traffic.  The bike rider isn't required to sit behind the last car if it's safe to ride the shoulder.

I had the same incident at ORC but I cartop so I parked by the park but I politely told the guy I was parking out if the way and not using the ramp with the car.  Do you use a trailer?

The though-terminating cliche, "Haters gonna hate" would of been the most appropriate response.

Recent yakker, lifelong fisherman....If you were not impeding the boat launchers, AT ALL, I would have told the guy to go look for a rolling doughnut. IMHO.

Ah...ramp drama....one of the reasons I gave up powerboats. Like to watch though.

In three years of kayak fishing, I have one ramp story but I will save it. Some boaters simply do not like to see kayaks. The vast majority are cool and and positive and I have met some that also kayak fish.

My questions are, did you park a vehicle with no trailer in the spots that are designed for vehicles with trailers, or did you park in a spot that only cars fit in like by the park?  If you did the first, I can see why some people would be pissed.  But, as long as the launch fee was paid, technically, I don't think you did anything wrong.

I don't know what it is about those depoe bay powerboaters but they are real a-holes.  my and zee had a similar encounter at ORC  a few years ago.

craig, have trailer i tow behind car,  i don`t park in either area, i parked on the deadend little use if any service road right next to ramp. unload yak next to car, pull out all my crap, set it all up, cart the thing to the ramp, walk wheels back to trunk lock the car and go. it`s a sweet little spot don`t tell anyone about it.

You got he careful around them dam painters they are always cutting in line! JUST KIDDING
In all seriousness as long as the guys you past got to launch there boats and you didn't slow them down or block there progress then you didn't do anything wrong in my eyes.

The only way I could see that the guy had a point is if there were limited trailer parking spaces so some of the boaters you passed might not be able to launch because of no parking   Since it sounds like you parked in the cheap seats, leaving the spots closer to the ramp for them ...... Watermans bicycle example nailed it.  In no way did you slow them up or hinder them in any way.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

In that same situation I would just launch off the dock and not even bother with the ramp.
