I needed more practice with my hobie outback kayak so I took it out for spin again at WG.  The weather was nice and warm...waves relatively calm and flat. Caught both high tides and got 3 butts (2 x 12# and 1 released).  Interesting thing is that I caught 3 sand sharks and 1 medium size rock fish.  I need to check my mono lines more carefully next time after catch and release sharks, because I lost 2 fish due to lines snapping on me.

I love how I can troll with hobie kayak.  Most hookups occurred after I trolled some distance (35ft -70ft) and slowly reeling in the line and let it soak for couple of minutes.  When outgoing tide, I can peddle slowly to stationary position without the need to deploy the anchor.

Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase...but I wish I can go faster.  Maybe the new hobie revolution 16 will satisfy my thirst for speed.

Sounds like a good outing. I had to do fall chore around the homestead this weekend but will be trying for feeder kings next weekend plus a few days if the weather is not too bad.

Yeah...I was really entertained and it was fun time catching different species. By the way, I was intrigued by other posts indicating what butts been gorging on.  I gave the fish to my mom and instructed her to save the stomach content.  And this is the stomach content in one of the halibut...crabs, and lots of them (partially digested and semi-firm, I counted 5).  I guess they are still feeding in WG and last weeks catch by other angler was dieting?

Nice job. I haven't caught many sharks or skates the past several years. Inlet used to be full of them!  I'm going to try and use gulp power crabs one day. Great job getting out!  I'm on semi hiatus until the kings start running. Oct 1. They are already there I think....

Mak - stomachs full of crabs was definitely the norm this summer, so very strange to catch two very different sized butts, both totally empty stomachs. I was fishing a bit shallower though and only on the incoming tides, not sure if that made the difference. Planning one or two more WG trips this year - hopefully wind will cooperate.
Good things come to those that wade.

I just ordered a jar of the new penny ones after seeing the picture. I guess I can give them away to the halloween kids as toys. I will try them next week first though.

I have confidence that if you can get one in front of a halibut, they will hit it...but that's true probably for anything.  I think you need some "attraction" for the set up as well.  Might reach into the ice fishing bag of tricks.  I am trying just about anything to get away from carrying herring all the time.  Or at least limit myself to one pack per trip.  That stuff is too frickin expensive.
