Ok...trying to decide if I am ready to go out fishing in a serious manner.  I'm still a bit burned out from Kodiak and it doesn't help knowing the fishing might be slow.

I may try to hit Homer for a kings.  the Homer Elks Derby is Oct 4 & 5.  I have a couple of powerboats trying to get me to go for the derby but I may still try it out of a kayak.

Larger fish are reportedly are still offshore but a lot of smaller fish apparently everywhere.  So I better try and prefish the closer in areas to see if its worth me trying it out of a kayak.

I have a freezer full of halibut and I gave most of my dipnetted reds to my parents so I need a few kings.

I'd say 75% chance I go tomorrow.  Don't need to leave early.  High tide is at 1:36pm so I will fish from about then to low tide at 7pm if I go.  Launching from in between Land's end Hotel and the condos if I do go.

i'll try and update this board once I know one way or the other.

I'm going to Homer on Monday I think, my wife has a Pennisula business trip so I'm tagging along behind her. I'll be in Seward for the Sunday tide, I don't expect to get much as the Silvers have died down maybe a bottom dweller of some type, any fishing is good. I sold the motorhome so I'm limited to my Jumping Jack, which is great  but I burn more gas than just thowing the kayak into the truck. We sold the motorhome a few years back and started motel /JJ trailer camping . I'll watch for your report. I got a bucket of the Gulp crabs that I am fixing up some fancy rigging for, they sure smell better than herring.

It'd sure be nice to dial in butts out of Seward. The crabs will work I'm sure if you can get their attention I hope. But then, anything will work. I'm going to draw on my ice fishing experience and try a drop shot type set up.

It'll mainly be trolling but I want to use a similar set up for "mooching" kings. But I have some gulp sand eels and sand worms I want to try.

I'll keep Ya posted.

last time I was out a couple weeks ago , I used fried chicken bones and caught a 35 pounder....so yeah, it seems anything will work.

Any details on the elks derby?  I'd be interested in going out.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

This weekend, we have our daughter's bday party, but Next weekend--Sept 28--I've been thinking about a trip to Homer for Kings.

Ok. Got motivated enough to load up. Expectations are low with Intel but I got to try and get back in the groove. That Kodiak trip set the bar too high. Not sure how excited I can get for driving 8 hours for puny kings...lol.

They were nice and chunky too!! Could have kept two more. But it was pretty fishy. Of course at the end of the day it was all pollock.
