In Montana, people sometimes say “You can’t eat the scenery.”  The people who say this have usually just taken a better-paying job in a less attractive state.



Actually, you can eat part of the scenery, namely the fish.

It's my downrigger weight.  my lure trails behind the weight in a smoother curve.

I had been contouring around the sides and end of a long narrow underwater ridge at the 70 foot level, and ran into a bunch of fish.  So I started trolling in a cloverleaf pattern to figure out where the school was located, which involved trolling down the side of the ridge at various angles.  It turned out that most of the fish were deeper than the level at which I had been trolling.
