When trolling for salmon in open water, do you find yourself using certain lures and/or sizes during certain times of day?
i.e hoochies in the early AM, cutplug later on, spoons after that, etc...

I'll change depth per time of day, but not so much lures. In the sound I'll start in the top 70', then adjust to the marks on my FF or just go deeper as the sun gets higher in the sky. I'll change technique/lures depending on what's working. I almost always run bait though unless the dogfish are thick just because bait almost always outfishes lures.

Appreciate it, Poly.

What's your regular method for fishing deeper than 70? I liked my cuda torpedo divers, but broke both off earlier this year and haven't yet purchased new ones.

Either a downrigger, mooching, or jigging. Trolling on the downrigger if bait and schools are spread out or thin. If they're stacked one on top another and just everywhere, mooching or jigs can be devastating.

I second the mooching. Also catching you own bait fish will help a lot. You will not have to guess the size of the bait fish. You will know.

Has anyone fish for salmon at night time from kayak?  I was out in Edmonds and came in after dark. The 1/4 moon was out and water was calm with occasional  scheduled ferry wave.  It was high tide and saw lots of people in parking lot heading out to the pier with fishing poles.  Google "Night fishing for salmon" and found 2 articles - just want to know if anyone has firsthand experience and success.
