Low and behold, my mini-boxes leak.  It's bad when you don't notice it for a couple of days and find everything welded together by rust... I should notice things like that.

I use the 3213 Plano Mini-Magnum boxes.  I've been trying to trim down what I'm lugging along, and have been using Plano Mini-Magnum boxes, but need to replace them with something less leaky.

I carry 4 to 6 spinners and some swivels in one box; and hooks, beads, corkys and weights in another box; and when I'm not in the kayak, I carry whichever box I'm going to use in my jacket pocket.

The Mini-Magnums are about 4 x 6 inches and are plenty large enough for what I carry with me these days.

Is there a small box with - I dunno - eight or so small compartments that's waterproof?  Water resistant, at least?

I use these for saltwater stuff. They are waterproof. You can order them on Amazon, Cabelas, etc.

Thanks!  I must have missed them when I was in Wal-Mart a couple of days ago.  They seem to be a single compartment.  Are they?  I don't really need 4 or 6 or 8 compartments, but would really like two compartments so I can keep swivels away from those hooks that always bite me.

I'll look for them on my next trip.

They make a variety of them; I should have mentioned that. I use the 11x7 ones and they have compartments.

I don't think they're at all Wal-Marts; I haven't seen them at my Wal-Mart either. That was just the first link that came up.

Here is a list of the options:

They're great,  but they still leak on occasion.   They are still  the best thing I've found though.

If they leak on occasion, that's light-years better then my Mini-Magnums.  Those never hit the water and had to have filled up from paddle drips.  They're like colanders.

I searched these models out online and found them, but I really appreciate the time you spent chasing the links for me.  Thanks.

I think a couple of the small ones will work just fine.

Home Depot, of all places, has a few different sizes and shapes of the Plano waterproof boxes, at great prices too.  I have several that fit inside the center hatch just fine.  I've also attached some 1/8th inch bungie that I hook to the underside of the hatch lid, as these boxes tend to slide around, and out of reach sometimes.

For me, after a day of fishing, fresh or salt, I always open up all of my tackle boxes and let them air out for a few days.

Got that message, loud and clear.  Monday was the first time The Boss and I fished from our kayaks and I'm used to using those leaky boxes when I'm bank fishing - where water doesn't drip on them - and didn't think twice about using them in the kayak since they were high up, above the puddles.

Stupid of me really, since I rinse everything - kayak, rods and reels, paddles, clothes - as soon as we get home.  It would have taken 30 seconds at most to look in the box.  Definitely my dumb.

I need a list of things to not leave behind the seat of my truck when we launch.  It seems I need a second list of things to do when I get back home...

Thanks for the tip about Home Depot.

I ordered some of all sizes from Amazon. The 3440 is much cheaper there than anywhere else. http://www.amazon.com/Plano-3440-10-Waterproof-Stowaway-Series/dp/B00469G31G/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1412894771&sr=1-3&keywords=plano+tackle+box+waterproof

I put both cell phones in a 3440.  I also use one as a battery box. Never had issues with them leaking, but neither have been submerged for any period of time.

The 3600 size will fit through an 8" hatch. the 3700 sizes are huge. I put flashers and lead in them. Both are comparably priced with Walmart at Amazon.  You just don't have to drive and stand in line.  ;)

Another trick is to get some of the rubbery foam that keeps floor mats from sliding on floors, and goop it inside your hull.   Stops things from sliding around really well.

The car floor mats is a great idea; and for me, very timely. We just bought a new car with some custom floormats...the factory ones are sitting on my garage floor. Now I have a purpose for them!

Neat trick!  The Boss has something similar in the closet: those rubber "mesh" mats that stick on the back of area rugs to keep them in place, and I'll see how that stuff works.  Might even muffle some of the noise I've been known to make when I'm clumsy.

BONUS!  The Plano 3440 boxes are deep enough to hold my old amber-colored Plano Micro-Magnum boxes, so I can store all the little bits in those and keep them dry in the 3440's.

Another great thing about these boxes is that they float.  While I'm sure you could sink one if you tried, when they are filled with a normal amount of fishing gear they will float.  This works really well if you have several in your fishing bag and it falls in...that was a happy discovery.
