Rudy, have you picked the dates for the 3rd annual NWKA Alaska Yak classic yet. I am setting up travel plans and my Kayak Adventures calendar for the summer. I think I am done with Kayaking for the fall but really looking forward to next year.

Alright!!! A man that plans ahead!!!!   But you are done for the year??? November is PRIME time for kings.

It's always a toss up between getting an early start and the weather. It will likely be early June. Too late and we could get shut out for kings again.

I hope to take it up another level and make it more formal. This is a NWKA tournament so all NWKA folks chime in!  Would love to set a date early to start convincing some of the out of state folks to come up!!!

Tides look nice for the 5/29-31 weekend. The earlier the better, I think. That entire week leading up to the weekend has excellent tide swings, and would offer dependable halibut fishing in shore for NWKA members from Outside.

I have a four day  weekend blocked for that week already so those dates would fit my schedule. I am going to try for one last trip for baby kings in the next week or so if we get exceptional weather, the cold really gets to me anymore.

I'm game for late May early June.

It'll probably be crowded Memorial Day weekend.....how about 2 weeks later?  May be a bit warmer and less crowded on the beach?
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Bump. Had a few beers with Andy aka Kenai_guy last night. We were talking about a 4 event schedule. But we want to make it fair and mostly fun. So far we discussed late May early June for halibut/kings. Late August for cohos. October for kings. And one freshwater venue.  I'll just leave it at that and open for discussion.

I'll be there!  Anyone know of good lodging in the area?  Campground and/or affordable hotels?

We'll be up for those events...Maybe do a Series type approach: each event has a winner, but also have an overall AK Cup winner tied to the 4 events. Probably some NASCAR fan could figure out how to do that math for us b/c that's what I'm thinking.

DAngler, depending on if the main "Whiskey Gulch Classic" is the May/June event that gets carried over from last year, there's free tent camping all over the beach in that area--from Deep Creek to Whiskey Gulch. Just wake up and go!

I'm in for all of it. Dates as quickly as possible though as I am no longer self employed (darn it!).
Good things come to those that wade.

Ok.  time to set the dates.  May 30-31. Fishing probably from Saturday midnight to 4pm or so Sunday.

Tides are good as per AKfishergal.  good morning low and afternoon high slack.  It's earlier date than later.  Doesn't conflict with Memorial Day (May25).

If Kings are open we will go with AOTY point based comp.  If not we will do just halibut again.

Need to start organizing and getting prizes.  I promise to do things more formally this year.

Start spreading the word!!  Mark those calendars!
