We were invited to the Roseburg, OR VA Medical Center by Bill Congleton, a great friend of our Oregon HOW Chapter, for their National Prosthetics Day celebration on Nov. 6.

Bill was severely injured by an IED in Iraq in 2004. He kicked off the day by running a sub 9 minute mile and wrapped up the day's festivities as they keynote speaker. During his speech Bill gave thanks and credit to the quick actions of his unit for saving life, his family, his doctors, and his prosthetics team. He also gave a nod to outdoor recreational therapy programs like Heroes On the Water for reconnecting him to his brothers and sisters in arms, pushing his boundaries, and showing him new possibilities.

Having something fun to look forward to on the calendar can make a big difference to our wounded warriors during the seemingly endless grind of surgeries, rehabilitation, and physical therapy.

We want to thank Bill and the other Veterans for the warm welcome and congratulate Bill on his literal and figurative milestone in his decade of recovery since his Alive Day.

We wish all the best to Bill and his loving family and we hope to see him out on the water with us again next year. Tight lines Sir!

To all our Veterans, thank you for all you have given and have an awesome Veterans Day tomorrow.
