Cool you are putting this on. I'm going to make this event for sure weather permitting. I Fished Swan I today and it was awesome. The rise in water temperature really helped. I hooked all my oversized today way back toward the boat ramp in 35 feet of still water, but fish were biting at the Yota hole, the train trestle and out where you meet current from the SI lagoon.
Like I said though, the best fish and the best bite was in close to the ramp where you would not expect it (unless you look at your ff and say omfg!).
I am really looking forward to meeting some new folks. Im no master but I would be willing to help anyone with an extra anchor, sturgeon rod or questionable advice.

Are there any laws about staying a certain distance from the boats on the docks. I ask because I was there over the weekend by the coast guard station near the boats and some guy hollered and said I had to be 200 yards from the ships. I was in my power boat and I don't know if that makes any difference.

I would bet they would want you to stay clear of the Coast Guard boats just in case they need to get going in a hurry. I'll make sure to bring it up to the participants. I'll actually give them a call tomorrow to find out the distance for sure. As far as the other ships I've never had anyone say anything to me including the county sheriff and coast guard who I have talked to both time out there but if you had to stay 200 yards away from every ship in the basin it wouldn't leave much space.

Found it:

" Federal, state and local governments have enacted specific measures since the events of September 11, 2001, to help deter unlawful or dangerous operations on our nation's waterways. Violation of Homeland Security Measures can result in severe consequences. Please be aware of the following Homeland Security Measures, and act accordingly to keep our waterways safe and secure:

Do not approach closer than 100 yards to all military, cruise-line, or commercial shipping vessels."

Well I guess according to that, nobody can even use the swan island boat launch to get on the river

Yeah like I said I've not had anyone say anything to me. Were you anchored up by the Coast Guard boat themselves?

No, I was across from the coast guard station close to the ship with the big round thing on it.

A few years ago , Next Adventure sponsored a Dino Tournament  on the Willamette River in December and if I remember correctly it was about 32 degrees that day. But you know what-------- it was a great day.
Ron Sauber had his sled out on the water with hot coffee , burgers and hot dogs available . That was so cool to be able to take a warm up break while out on the water. Not saying that will happen this time--- just saying -- don't let a little cool weather stop this event from happening. We can all dress appropriately so that no one is uncomfortable and still get out on the water.
This will be an awesome time for all that participate. Lots of potential for learning, sharing, and good times.
  We will make this happen.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Nice job Tyler, getting this event together. I'm going to be in Salt Lake during December so I won't be able to make it.  :(
