In 2014 Tyler Hicks, aka Uplandsandpiper, set out to catch or harvest as many species of fish and shellfish as he could in Washington and Oregon states. Fishing primarily from a kayak or from the bank he pursued his goal of catching at least 50 species. This quest took him to desert lakes, mountain reservoirs, to rocky shores, and 40 miles offshore beyond view of the coast.  In total he drove over 10,000 miles and spent nearly 100 days on the water in his piscine pursuit. While not every species he sought was caught, he far exceeded his goal of 50 species. For every species caught and for every not, a narrative was born. Come join us to hear some of the stories from Tyler’s adventures in the greatest fishing region in the world.

Wednesday January 7th • 7pm
The Green Dragon Bistro & Pub
Barrel Room
928 SE 9th Ave
Portland

The meeting is in the Barrel Room, which is past the bar and through the brewery.  We have a dedicated server too, so try to hold off on getting drinks until you are in there.

We will also have a year end review of CCA Oregon news for 2014 and what’s ahead for 2015.

I hope to see you guys there.

I will definitely try to make this. Tyler should have a great presentation. Not only is the Cascadia Big Fishing Year a super cool quest, Tyler always does a great job of presenting. This should be a good one to attend.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday. If you can't make it I will be presenting on the Cascadia Big Fishing Year at the Mt. Saint Helens Institute's "Volcano Views and Brews" in Portland on March 18th as well.

I'll be there in spirit.  Y'all have a great time.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Wish I could make it down from Seattle for this. Knock em dead, Tyler.

A word of unsolicited advice: if you're not walking out to "Final Countdown," you're doing it wrong:

Great job on getting this together on short notice. I was impressed how much research you had to do on the species to pull it off. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your Big Fishing Year as a story and presentation.  I really enjoyed so many of your artistic photos - I wish you would just do a photo journal with the terrabytes of digital images...you have quite the artistic talent that matches your passion for fishing.  Thanks Tyler!

Tyler,  That was a fun presentation.  I am looking forward to your book coming out, and the recipes for preparing the bounty of the Northwest!   And it was good to connect with others from this forum and trade fishing stories!!
