I didn't like the way it cast... retrieved... I didn't like that it felt overly complicated to clean... I didn't like the way the line went on the spool... the list goes on.  The only things I liked was the handle and the color.  To be fair, I am one of only two people who I know that has had one and did not like it.  Everyone else I have talked to has really liked them.

I had a 300 with the regular handle.

Own a 6601... have not had time to use it so is sitting in storage.

Lexa 300... Unless we're going for halibut and very large local species, it has everything that can make it a daily use reel at a bit less of a price point than the NaCL. I bought mine when I was working in So.Carolina a couple years ago, and it quickly became my favorite.

Own a Fathom in the model number you mention... has worked well on charter trips to fill the freezer. BUT I've had a couple issues with it jamming / tieing up or skipping when under load. If I stop, release all drag tension, and then pull line instead of free spool, it comes right back, but experiencing this multiple times, this puppy is headed to the shop to get looked at.

BTW, I'm a righty who reels left.

After much deliberation I ordered a Lexa 300. $146.67 from Wal-Mart online with free shipping to the store. Cant beat that price! And of course, going to Wal-Mart customer service to pick it up was entertaining.  :o But anyway... now that I have it in my hand (and on a rod) it is much smaller than I was expecting. It feels more like the size of a normal baitcaster reel to me. I'm sure it will meet the call of duty it is rated for, so I don't think its a deal breaker, but it does feel "off" in that sense, and will take some getting used to.

I was planning on putting it on a (2-4 oz lure weight) Cabelas Tourney Trail casting rod that I graciously won at Roys AOTD this last year...(This is a really nice rod by the way! Don't let the price fool you!) Being that the reel feels too small to begin with, it felt even smaller and unmatched on this rod, so I tried it on another rod...

I have an old original Dee Thomas signature Lamiglas 7'6 flippin' stick that is collapsible. I think this is a perfectly matched combo for the kayak and this reel  :D Anybody remember Dee Thomas?

Good price. I paid a lot more for mine but that was 3 years ago.

Paired mine with a Diawa Jupiter and have really been impressed with the pairing.

For what you envision using it for, I think you'll be very happy.

Good hunting.

Thanks for this info: I've been looking for a new reel also and that price is about $35 cheaper than the store I was about to buy the Lexa 300 from...perfect timing.

Take a look at Okuma's Cold Water low profile line counter reel. Seems to be a pretty beefy reel for the money.  I ordered mine on line for $132 WITH FREE SHIPPING.

It may be they've fixed their issues since, but i've got a 2014 round-profile LH Coldwater that's been nothing but a headache right out of the box - weird clicking noises on the retrieve, drag is both slipping and seriously under-powered, and a few other things.  And the crappy thing is that it was sent to me by Okuma as a replacement for a defective convector.

I have an Avet and it is left handed but it doesn't have a worm drive. You have to use your thumb to guide the line evenly on the reel. I wouldn't recommend this reel to anyone. It was awesome at first, I really like the lever drag and release. The design allows for saltwater to really get inside the reel and that has wreaked havoc on my reel's performance. I tried to be good about rinsing it out after every use but that doesn't seem like it is enough. I have had my Avet for less than six months and I'm having problems with corrosion/pitting on the main housing.

I would send it back to the factory maybe they had a bad run, they might want to see that. Did you get a colored one?

Wobbler, have you had a chance to put this reel through some fish?  What's your verdict?

I've owned both Lexa and Revo and they are both good reels. If you service your own reels, the Lexa is easier to service. Some people have had problems with the Revo bearings but I didn't. I sold my Revo's and only have Lexa's. I like the cast control but the absence of a clicker limits it's use in some trolling or multiple rod scenarios. The Shimano Tekota is a good reel and come in a line counter series also.

After watching the Lexa 300 in action I would say it is a pretty awesome little reel. I watched it but the hammer down on three halibut all over 50 pounds while fishing 12 oz of lead!
