Ok. Mice were pissing me off so I had to try something I knew more about.

Went to Homer. Beautimous day!!! I was roasting hot. Hard to believe it's JANUARY.

I hope it's not an omen but I went 1 for 3. The one I kept was pretty small. But hey it will eat great!!  Of course the two I missed seemed much larger from the way the rod doubled over.

To make matters worse, the small one I landed struck no more than 10 seconds after my first battery runs out. Argh.

So the fish are there. The tides were the worst possible but still got three strikes in 4.5 hours of fishing. Zero pollock. So I may run bait next time. I used 16oz lead to a flasher to a glow and green coho killer. Most action was 20 ft down in 60ft of water.

On the positive side this is a King every month from Sept to Jan. I wonder how long I can run this streak. Lol.

How was the road getting out there?  This weekend I might attempt my first dip in the water if tides/weather allow.

Roads were fine though I was worried to see the thermometer go from 32deg in Anc down to 22 deg in the pass and up and down above and below freezing all the way to Homer. Roads were pretty good though.

Weather is too far out but Friday looks good.  Tide is perfect.  10am sunrise, noon high tide.  I'll be likely giving it another go. I'm going to run red or green label herring and a downrigger I think. Temps above freezing all week in Homer.

Wow, you guys have some miles to travel between homer and anchorage.  I just checked and it's something like 220.  Takes dedication up north in so many ways!

Yah AK is huge. 450 miles round trip is about as far as I go normally. Fortunately I grew up half way down so I can drive the road virtually asleep. Driving 8 hours to fish 4 hours is nuts. But why drive 2 hours knowing you have much less chance of catching something. I LOVE my 30mpg civic!!!!!

Rudy you are killing me, you just keep catching fish all winter.   I am so tempted to try the drive which I'll point out is about 45 miles one way longer than your drive. I am going to check the tides and pick a couple of days before the end of the month. the ice around my house is too messy to deal with so the salt is the way to go. Have you heard of anyone getting the feeder Kings out of Seward with out a taxi?

That is awesome that your streak continues!

How much are taxi's out of Seward?

They catch kings in both a seward and Whittuer. Just not consistent enough.  If we could even semi consistently catch kings in those spots it'd be revolutionary even for power boats. I may try and convince one of my power boat buddies to give it a try. Spend one solid day trolling four lines within kayak range.

Or maybe we have a NwKA get together in a whiitier soon.  Good gear check. Id like to try my sail out. I've caught rockfish and flounder in March.  Ok. Back to work. I'll have to think about this.

And yah Rod, that last 45 miles would be a killer at the end of the day but that extra hour of leaving early would do me in.
