Hey has any one in here caught any flat fish (halibut, flounder, sole, etc) off of a kayak? If so where and what bait do you use?

Caught a 50# halibut this week.   ;)

I've caught halibut off of Cannon Beach (from a charter boat) in kayak range. The fish in my my rowboat (avatar) is a 40# hali I caught at Neah Bay WA, a few years ago.

It's doable from a yak and you don't have to go out to 400'.

I have some spots in the Gps on my ocean boat that are under 100ft deep and within 2 miles of the beach.  When I get back into town (heading to Malaysia for most of the month of August) I plan to try them out on the yak (Provided there is some quota left).  They are spotty compared to the deep water spots farther offshore and sometimes you have to move around to find the fish (which is way easier in a powerboat compared to a kayak) but I have caught some nice butts drifting big herring/sardines or small shad in these locations.

Did anyone catch the Oregon Field Guide segment on flat fish last night? Just caught part of it, but what I saw was interesting (and depressing) at the same time.  Cannibals, eat their own young if they can catch them... bottom structure like rocks, sponges, anenomes, etc... give the little ones cover to hide from the adults... trawler dragging their nets over this structure rip it up and expose the juveniles.

They have it online at:
