Think ahead.  How would you respond if a whale surfaced 20' from you?  Or if you hooked into a shark - how would you release it!

I caught a big skate last year.  Burned out the TLD15 I was using.  CNR.

Caught a big old ugly crooked tooth Wolf Eel last year.  CNR.  Should have kept it as I later heard they are good eats.

Had a Sea Lion chase me last week.  Hooked a seal too.  LDR on those.

Ran across killer whales recently.  CNR.   ;)

Any more questions?   ::)

Hey Alan,

Couldn't get much easier.  My back yard is Beverly Beach State Park (BBSP).  House is just above Moon's store as you come in to the park.  If you look up the hillside on the road that leads down to the park that's the yard.

I'd be more than happy to hit the pond with you and whomever else would like to join us.  I'm spoken for at 10 am on the 13th and most of the day the 14th.  If conditions are right we could do Otter Rock (the rock in front of BBSP) the afternoon of the 12th or 13th.  Ling, cabs, blacks and crab.  Don't forget to bring a Danielson crab trap or two and fishy bait (salmon/albacore preferred).

My favorite!  Doesn't quite qualify as Unagi but pretty darned good!

How'd you get a sea lion to chase you?  I'd love to paddle among KW's.  One of my dreams.

I was in the middle of bleeding out the 50# halibut when I noticed what I thought were porpoises about 100 yards out.  I started to paddle towards them to try to get some pics.  Well, they were sea lions and I turned around to get away.  But one got interested in me and the blood trail.  It came up right behind me as I was paddling off.  I continued to paddle and rejoined the rest of the kayaking group and which point he left me alone.

Greg,  would love to join you down there some time, but it won't be anytime soon.  Heading back out to the field in a week and a half and need to spend some time with the girlfriend or else.

I'm planning on a trip up to Tacoma/Bremerton soon but will be on the Harley and riding up with a friend.  Otherwise I'd drag the Yak and gear with and go for one of those butts you're into.

Hey FS,

I'm still planning on being at Beverly Beach state campground August 12 - 14th, leaving the 15th.  If you are still interested, maybe you could show me how you fish there.  Be nice to have some flat water and hungry lings - Alan

Hey Alan,

I've got you in my calendar (remember I have mid day mtg on the 13th and an all day mtg on the 14th).

Do you know your site number yet?

Lets hope we don't have the wind then we did yesterday.

Greg

Hi FS,

Sorry about the lapse in time.  I'm not good with computers and anyway....  We have tent site A11 at Beverly Beach State Park tuesday the 12th.  Plan to be there sometime that afternoon.  Feel free to use my email address alanentinc@aol.com  Any other resources or tips you might have will be welcome.  How do you know if the bar is open?  We will be there and ready for some fun.  See you there - Alan

Hey Alan (Wanabee and anyone else that's planning to join us),

The ocean has been very calm the last 2 days and we're hoping for more of the same into next week.

Bring lead heads from 3-8 oz.  Flashy additions work well as do squid imitations.  Also, curly tails and/or split tails in root beer, oil, and white.  Chrome bars work well in kelp beds too.

If it continues to be this calm bring a pink lady divers and coho hootchie terminal gear and we could very well get into coho.  Reports indicate they're getting closer.

See my PM to you.

Yeah; are you thinking about the 12th? I may be able to make it over, but things are kinda crazy at work and I have a couple of key staff out, so I'll have to play it  by ear. Keep me posted on the plan.

For all that are going to join us

I'm available at least on Tuesday afternoon and maybe Wed afternoon.  Our yakking will be based on the person with the least amount of experience and how comfortable they are with each location.  We'll move to a different spot if you don't feel like you're ready for a given situation.  I previously listed the options (Beverly Beach, Seal Rock, Depoe Bay) and all would have been favorable over the last few days.

If you don't have much experience I recommend emptying all the gear from your yak and playing in the surf off the beach.  That will get you ready for Pacific City in a few weeks.

Expect to meet at BBSP Yurt Meeting Hall unless something is posted following this message that indicates another location.
