I really enjoy it. Great fishing & lot's of people. Last year I think there was a 200 person entry limit. I really don't expect to win anything, I go mostly to see some of the folks I haven't seen for a year & for the party. I like the abalone diving also. Some of the NWKA members rent a house for the stay, which works out well for them. Others, including me, stay in the campground.

Rev - The team stuff for GS events is a safety thing. If you decide to go, I'll vouch for you & we can fish together.

Goldendog - thanks for putting the thread up.  I've been keeping the event much more low key this year so far.  Last year I had 218 people signed up, and I have considered capping the tourney around 200 to 250.  Instead I decided to just not promote it as much.  If the group can be somewhat refined to just those who know of it or heard of it and want to be a part then it should cap itself.

This year the format is changed - rockfish are out.  I'll still have scoreboards for keeping track of the usual species, but I now have a Pro Division where only salmon, lingcod and halibut score - most total inches wins, and you can turn in up to four fish with no more than two of any species.  Pro Division entry is $35 and competes for a cash pot which consists of $10 x the # of Pro entries.  Basic entry is the usual $25, but there are no prizes (trophies, yes).  Both Pro and Basic receive the same usual schwag with a t-shirt, some B2Squid tackle, a Hawg Trough Extension and a few other goodies.

The cash pot is at $260 right now, as 26 of the current 44 entries are Pro Division.  Once it hits $500 the second place cash pot starts building to $300, and then we'll build a third place cash pot to $200...etc.  I do expect 100 Pro entries.

Both Pro and Basic get an entry in a raffle for an Old Town Predator XL.

Other prizes will be in a weighted raffle where you buy tickets and put them in the buckets of prizes you'd like a chance at - PFD, paddle, seat type stuff plus a few other choice items and possibly another kayak.  The raffle proceeds will go to charities TBA.

You guys always have a good showing, and it's great to tie in kayakfishing bros from the farther northern region.

Please feel free to send me an email with any questions - [email protected]

I won't be checking in that often on this thread, so I really appreciate someone giving me a heads up by email or on NCKA if there are questions or issues here that I can help with.

All tourney business is conducted on this thread at NCKA:

It looks like Pacific Halibut might be closed for the event - that would be the first time ever, and it messes up my "Big 3" format, but the event will proceed as planned and just be a salmon and lingcod contest for the cash pot if necessary.

There's also a bonus for video release of lingcod - four inches per video release of lingcod over 30".

If Pac Hali is closed and salmon cooperate I can see two released lingcod in the mid 30" range and two similar sized salmon taking the pot.

Whatever happens, we'll have fun - it's a family event that most people stretch into a long weekend.  Opener for rockfish/lingcod here is Friday, May 15th, and the tourney is on Saturday.  Many arrive Wednesday or Thursday and stay through Monday/Tuesday.

See you there!   :)

Zee, my vacation is already spoken for this year.  But I might be down for a road trip next year.   I need to get my abalone diving fix in as well.
