It looks like we may be getting lucky this weekend.  All models are starting to agree.  It's still too early to call but NOAA, Wetsand and Magic Seaweed are indicating 4-5', West or SW swell at 15 to 17 seconds with winds 3-15KT.

Z- We may need to take a surf break in between fish.  Sounds like perfect longboarding conditions!

Well, you guys might get lucky but...

Well, I blew it yesterday and went out salmon fishing.  Word from my physical therapist today is - NO ROWING/PADDLING for at least 4-6 more weeks for my shoulder injury.  That pretty much knocks me out for now.  Going to have to buy some 6500's for salmon season too.

Can't believe I'm going to miss this.  Was really looking forward to it.  Seriously doubt I could do a beach reentry without getting into trouble.

Going to see if I can make it up anyway for the fun.

Sounds like it's time for a Hobie for you old man...LOL, just messin with ya.

But seriously,That's why my buddy Ralph(he's 61, btw) got one, he's got a bum shoulder and could never paddle a whole day. As long as you got one decent shoulder for carting the heavy thing around your good to go.
See ya on the water..

I've found that the more I kayak (paddle!) the more my shoulder problems are non-existent.  Of course good form is a necessity, otherwise I could see it aggravating a shoulder more.  I'm no expert on paddling form, but I've done it enough to know what hurts me and I stay away from that.  You may want to consider a private class with a kayaking instructor that is versed in the ways of good paddling form.

I've also found that the more I paddle, the less back problems I have, probably because in general it strengthens my "trunk" muscles.

Unless you have a permenantely hurt shoulder that limits your mobility.

But i agree about the back, i have a really bad back and since i've started Kayaking(pedaling!!) it's been feeling alot better. I've been Kayaking about every day for two or more weeks and still feel good which is rare for me.

I also ride a quad and when i ride for just a few hours i can barely walk for 3-4 days after.

If you only knew how bad my shoulder was at one point ...

And whitewater kayaking didn't help ... don't do a high brace with your arm up and out!!!

I should paddle a little more, might help build up the shoulder i seperated on my quad a couple years back. I'm pretty spoiled with my turbo fins!!

I don't seee myself ever doing white water yaking...

I agree w/ Pole a lot about paddling. I've had tons of back injuries and nothing strengthens my trunk as much as paddling. It's like a crunch for your stomach and back muscles at the same time. Paddling form is something that I think we rarely think about since we're always jamming to the next fishing spot. ;D But it's definitely something worth looking into. My form is pretty bad but man, a 30 minute paddle is a great midsection workout.

After a couple days of paddling my elbows are what bothers me??

After checking the forecast and consulting the crystal ball I decided the ocean will cooperate for Sat AM, so I payed up for the tourny  and will swing by site 29 to say hello Friday night.

Now to come up with a "game plan"?. Have done lots of offshore fishing from my (newly SOLD ;D offshore boat, thank God that finally went through!) and from the yak, but never fished a tournament.  Is the idea to catch the single biggest fish? I always fish for a "limit", 6 rock (limit just raised consult odfw) and 2 lings.  I would venture that if it is the single largest fish a guy would want to catch a big ling (since salmon in closed in the salt), six, 2lb black rock fish won't cut it.  I would not be unhappy to just do what I normally do and fish to "fill the fryer" but the thought of glorious prizes makes the competitive side of me curious. Not looking for the secret strategy, if there is such a thing, just wondering how these things normally work?

Also, I noticed that there are more people that say they are coming than have actually pre-paid.  Remember, it's a $30 entry fee if you pay via Paypal by the end of day tomorrow, Thursday.  The Paypal link is set up to allow a credit card payment as well.  If you are absolutely opposed to online payment, drop me a PM and state your intentions (you will be held to this ... I will hunt you down!!!).  If you don't do the above and just show up at the derby, onsite payment will be $35.  Thank you for your understanding.

Elbow and forearm pain is often times a result of gripping to hard.
