I always fish for a "limit", 6 rock (limit just raised consult odfw) and 2 lings.

The limit is 6 total fish...so if you get 2 ling, you can only have 4 blacks, or other cod..
See ya on the water..

lings are not considered part of your rockfish bag limit.  Page 98 of the oregon reg.

2 lings 22 inches  or greater
6 rockfish (excluding canary, yellow eye (always closed) and at this point in the season I believe Cabazons are closed (quota reached)

and if you where really lucky you could add

25 flatfish (sole/sanddabs, etc.)
and then head back to shore and surf fish for..
15 surfpearch

all in the same day and still be legal, not that anyone would want 25 sanddabs (other than for ling bait), they're kind of like bluegills (seemed like a good idea at the time to catch two dozen until its time to fillet them  ;D, but I will take 15 surf perch any day.

Oh I'll take 25 sand dabs.  No need to filet.  Gut and head them.  A quick pan fry.  Pulls right off the bones nice and easy.  Mmmm mmm goood.  OK, maybe I don't need 25 of them.   ;)

sole en papiote (sole in paper pouch) is darn tasty.  have done it several times with sanddabs, they are the perfect size.

Couple summers ago, off the oregon coast we had our salmon and were heading in (non yak fishing), depth finder showed a dense band of fish about 20ft thick, 10ft off the bottom in 300ft of water. I stopped to play around and see what they were, turns out they were sand dabs.. Limited the boat, (5 guys), Every drop, every hook (cannon ball on the bottom with 3-4 shrimp flies above it) had a fish on it.  That was to many sanddabs!  ate some, gave some away, traded some in for crabs (crab bait)...never again!

Hey Allen, can you cut this thread free and create a new sticky with the rules, hours, headquarters and fishable area and species all in one place?

Sounds like there's still some confusion.

OK.  Can do.  Let me summarize here as well.

1) Derby Headquarters.  Site #29 at Web County park.
2) Rules.  All Oregon regulations apply.  You must fish from a human powered watercraft.  There are no derby fishing boundaries.  You can fish anywhere in Oregon.  You must check in with me either Friday evening or Saturday morning (until 8AM) at Derby Headquarters.
3) Hours.  Saturday only.  Weighin closes at 5PM at derby headquarters.
4) Fishable species.  Salmon, Lingcod, Rockfish.

Short and simple.  Sorry for the confusion.  This is sort of a laid back event.  Perhaps one day when we get bigger I'll make things more formal.   But more formal means more work!!!

I was thinking of fishing my super secret derby winning location ...   ::)

My weekend suddenly became free... in spousal negotiations now about coming to the derby...  What time are folks planning on launching on Sat. morning?  And how insane would I have to be to try it with a 50 pound mutt in the back of an OK Big Game?

I'm launching at 8AM on Saturday, which is the deadline to sign in.

Bryce and I are leaving Seattle at 6AM tomorrow morning.  After a couple stops for food and to get a license, we should be set up at camp around noon-ish and on the water fishing shortly thereafter.

If you're fishing tidewater, the dog would be fine.  If your confident taking your dog on surf launches and landings, I'd still call you crazy.   ;)

Mybuddy and I will be leaving Central Or. Desert tomorrow 9pm and likely pulling in to PC around 1AM (ouch).  We will register at #29 on Sat. morning.  We plan on following the crowd, this is our first ocean trip.  Can't wait.  License, vest, rods, bait, water, gps, spare paddle, whistle, light, knife, fish finder, check check check

Just in case, GLF (girlsluvfishing), you mentioned earlier about using neoprene chest waders?  I don't know if you got info on that.  I tried them in whitewater and suggest that you don't use them.

After a capsize they fill with water and make climbing back in a boat very cumbersome.  And then if you get back on, you deal with a very uncomfortable few gallons of water in each leg.

In a river you can't get out of the current quickly and you are helpless, so whatever obstruction you hit may cause an injury or worse(hung up).  Very bad.  I will not use them when running whitewater in a kayak, canoe, or raft anymore.

I don't have any surf experience (yet) but I think getting stuck in the surf while in waders would be just as or more dangerous than a river.
Just in case,
Scott
