The most important thing is that Chris was there so if you end up not liking it you can always blame it on him.

It's true. Just go ahead and blame me for everything. It's always my fault when people lose fish  >:D

Great write Jason. I'm excited to see what else you contribute to NWKA. I think most will find this useful in their decision.

My take on the Outback vs Revo debate is that the most overlooked factor is personal style.

The Outback guys seem to be (or turn into) gearheads who like to have a lot of stuff arrayed around themselves. They have plenty of deck space to mount outsize fishfinders, radars, and TV's,  and to set down knives, pliers, cameras, lip grippers, phones, GPS, decks of playing cards, etc. Yaksurf's Outback looks like an AWACS destroyer out there.

The Revo guys tend to be more minimalist, because of the lack of deck space. Everything needs to be put in a specific space or it ends up overboard quickly. Interestingly, the guys on this forum who admit to losing the most gear - looking at you, Craig and Langston - are Outback owners.

Disclaimer: I run an Oasis, which is a tandem Revo.
You've obviously not seen Rawkstar's Revo. ;-)

Just read this thread again for the umpteenth time. Hope to be able to demo and buy either an OB or a Revo in June ...

great choice in model. outback has their place, but i think revo is much safer, did u try paddling both? if u have plans on the ocean i think that if some current and even a slight breeze come up that u would be hating the outback. same thought goes for pa 12 and 14 models. specificaly if something happened to the drive and u had to paddle back. i think it could make for a dangerous situation. the revo is not a racer with the paddle either but it is like nite and day compared to the outback. i use to have both until i traded outback hull in for another revo 13.

Dampainter, I am not sure how much I would be on the ocean as I am hopelessly prone to motion sickness. But in lakes, estuaries and protected waters such as the Puget Sound or the Straits of Georgia -- OK.

I'm the same way and Dramamine works pretty good for me as long as I don't spend too much time looking down at the deck.

I like the Outback more.... because that is what I own. :D

I think if I did more ocean fishing, I'd want the Revo though.  The Outback is great for what I do.

No experience but in the market.

Why do you think the Revo might be better in the ocean?
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

The revo hull is much faster and more efficient than the outback. It also has a lower profile so it is less affected by wind.
At the end of a long day it makes a huge difference!

I don't like Dramamine because it makes me feel - well not drowsy, but lethargic and drained of energy.   I've tried Bonine and it works and has less of a physical effect on me.  A combination of ginger ale and(or) ginger candies and Bonine works well.  I'm not hopelessly prone, but on occasion...

Go visit your doctor and get a prescription of Scopace.  (The pill form.)
I have to take this to ward off chumming all day.
Works amazing!

Dramamine made me feel like crap and lazy, and still didn't help with chumming.

Scopace isn't overpowering like the Scopaline patch, yet allows me to sniff diesel exhaust, smelly fish, have my head in the hatch, tie jigs, and go with the flow of the ocean without issue.

I usually take one when I leave the house or camper when I head for the launch.  One just as I launch and then one every 4-6 hours.
Each tab are supposed to last 8 hours, and obviously need time to take affect, so I overlap generously to keep the reaction going solid.
Some folks get a mild case of cotton mouth, but I have never had any side effects using Scopace.

When you get your script, have the doc write you 2 or 3 refills as well at the same time.

My Scopace pills are just as important to me as my PFD when packing gear!

A rockstar energy drink in the am usually works the slug off for me as does the thrill of catching fish.... After I get home one more rockstar and cleaning all my gear keeps me going till dinner then I crash earlier then normal.

OTC 25 mg tablets of Benadryl is my sea sick remedy. I have a VERY sensitive inner ear and thought I was going to die, at sea for the first two years I was in the USN, more than 50 years ago. I was given 200 mg of Benadryl and that changed my life 5 minutes later!
Today, for me, 75 mg will arrest the worst motion conditions and 50 mg is usually enough.

Benadryl makes most people sleepy, but I am not affected at all by it.....just complete relief in about 10 minutes.
If you try Benadryl, start with 25 mg and a drink of water to see if that is enough and only take one additional tablet at a time. Wait 10 to 15 minutes to see the results.

This thread is careening away from its original subject into a discussion of sea-sickness remedies.  There is a pretty good thread entitled "motion sickness resource thread" at http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=4826.0 , and another good thread on motion sickness remedies at http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=13321.0 .
