Make your own tortillas.

I started making my own corn tortillas about a year ago.   They are very easy to make and in the end require only slightly more time to make then it does to reheat tortillas from the store.

There are lots of recipes out there for this, but the one on the back of the bag of masa harina works pretty well.  It's just masa, water and a bit of salt. Mix until it feels like playdough.  Take a golf ball sized bit of dough, stick it in the press, flatten and then cook it on both sides for a couple minutes.

It's even simpler if you have your kids do the mixing and pressing.  It's not the most flattering photo of my daughter, but it's the only one I could find.

Nice! I will certainly be doing this. I like a little lime juice in my tortillas.

Very Nice!
Where can someone find a tortilla press?
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

It's also much cheaper.   This particular brand of masa harina can be found in most grocery stores for about $3 for a 4.4 lb (2 Kg) bag, but a trip to the local tienda or supermercado might save you even more.

That bag will make about 9 batches of 16 tortillas each or roughly 2 cents per tortilla.

Sweet. I'll add that I learned from Chris from liquid adventures that plain yogurt mixed with a can of smoked chipotle peppers makes an awesome topping for said fish tacos!!!!

Thanks for sharing. I'm going to try this out! I've made my own flour tortillas before and those turned out really well. Indian fry bread makes excellent fish tacos, too.

Where can someone find a tortilla press?

I picked one up a few years ago at my local Goodwill.

You can usually find them at your local tienda or supermarcado for about $10-$15.

Or you can get them online..
Here's one on Amazon for $13.16 (free shipping with $35+ Amazon order or those of us with Amazon Prime).

Can I substitute a krumkake iron for the tortilla iron? They would be fancy tacos. :)

Craig... your Norwegian is showing.   I don't know if the krumkake iron would work as a tortilla press, but your lefse griddle would be perfect for cooking the tortillas.   What ever you do, don't try and make your fish tacos out of lutefisk.
