Yes, sort of. Last fall the fog grayed out even the sun. GPS always got me back, but I worried about a backup, as others have said. Also, the GPS heading will jump around if you aren't moving fast enough. The compass stays true. This is going on my Thresher in a couple of weeks. I think I like the bulkhead option, though, now that I see it. Do any of you worry about blind PB's running you over? I can navigate fine, but don't trust them.

Yes! We had a tourney in the John's River area a couple years back. A white out fog rolled in, and there were still power boats motoring through the crowd at speed! You couldn't see them, but you knew they were close.

I guess that is why you carry an air horn and/or whistle.  When they seem to be getting too close, give them a HOLLA!!!

Is white out fog a no go? I see boats going out, but some are depending on radar.

That's really your call to make. Know your limits. If there's a ton of PB's in the area I won't launch in a white out. I also won't launch through big surf in a white out because you can't see what's coming. Aside from that I'm pretty comfortable flying by instruments. On the flip side, I won't go running for shore in either of those cases if fog rolls in. Just try to remain vigilant in case things go wrong.

Repost: the last one didn't take. That's really about where I fall, too. Last fall, I chose nogo once, and spend 2 other full days in the white. I'm adding the deck compass and going to follow the airhorn suggestion. I've heard motors, but didn't think to use my whistle. Perpendicular to the sound and paddle cocked was my defense. I never saw the PB.
