Hello Everyone.  I really appreciate the concern for my safety.  I have a loving family and believe me that safety is paramount to me and why I wouldn't do this alone :). AI2 being an Hobe adventure island 2015 model.  Others were calling it AI2 so I was just following along with the term.  I also have a tandem island if someone felt like my first trip out would be best riding with someone.   I had a PA14 that I sold to get the AI so that I could have a safer kayak to fish the open ocean on.  Fishing the swells in HI taught me a great deal...  Regarding safety gear I will have a dry suit, VHF radio with GPS distress transponder.  I personally would not be the person that followed others out in 6-8 Ft swells in 25 winds.  I have been fishing and boating on or around the ocean my entire life and started doing kayak fishing in HI to get more personal with the sport if you will.  That and getting exercise.  I do agree that I should scout the area first and would be more than happy to tag along early with anyone that will out in the water :).  Going after lings would also be a ton of fun.   Thanks again and hope to get to know most of you soon.  Thanks to everyone who sent the nice PM's!

Two more weeks till lings open in Area 4. Having the AI gives you a few options, like going out with just one ama. The Adventure is an awesome ocean boat but one you want to spend some time it on the ocean.
Once you fish Hobuck once you won't want to leave

PB, sounds like yer set. Don't worry, the only person who goes out in 6-8, 25kn conditions is yaktrap. The rest of us do cool things with campfires and whittle kindling into fish bonkers.

Always like campfires :).  Going for ling to christen this boat sounds like fun and going to see if I can make that happen.

I would just suggest a port launch out of la push for your first trip. It's a tad easier and it's 30 minutes closer. Not for halibut, but to prep for halibut.
Bill will let you borrow he's sealion rape whistle.

Scouted out  Shipwreck point this past weekend lots of small to legal Lings, had a #25+ rider on a Seabass but it let go right at the yak, in all a good spot to start for Aprils opener and a easy launch when the Coast is blowing!
