There's no such thing as being entitled to a springer.  You may have all the answers, spin the perfect baits in all the right waters and still come up empty.

With each skunk, confidence wanes.  With each unsatisfied hour of searching another question looms.  Should I add a spinner blade?  Should I be fishing higher in the water column?  Do I have bad bait?  Is my weight too heavy?  Too light?  Should I add scent?  Should I loose my flasher?  Do I? Should I?  Have I?  Will I?

And then, in a moment, perseverance pays off.  It's just you and a pulsating resistance transferred down 9 feet of carbon and fiberglass.   All the world is a fish.

Wonderful fish.  I think it burned off a pound or so during that fight.  It was a long one, and the best part was the applause from the power boaters.  Not sure you heard that in the adrenaline rush of it all.  Really fun to watch you battle that beast.

Thanks guys!  I can't believe it took 4 trips to finally connect.  But then, that's why they call it fishing I guess.

Kyle, I was vaguely aware of couple of hoots but as you suggest, it was muted by adrenaline.

This was my personal best springer.  35.5" and well north of 20lbs.

Yup, as Kyle said the nearby boaters all gave you a solid standing ovation.  I think there were a few runners on the Hawthorne bridge giving props as well.

Nice job, Mark. It had been my fantasy, once, to do that right there when my son used to work in the KOIN tower. Then I'd have made the phone call to look out the window. Never happened, though.
