Heroes On the Water, Portland is throwing it's first event on April 25th. We are looking for 4 to 8 volunteers to help  guide our veterans for the day.

Before we get much deeper into the details, I would like to share with you some awesome changes in our program this year. With the help of Next Adventure we have acquired a fleet of 8 Wilderness Kayaks 4 Rides and 4 tarpons.  Kayak Shed has helped us acquire 12 Werner Skagit 240's and two Baja 220's paddles. Along with HOW's Pfd's we are now a full service chapter.

The people that we want to thank most is you. Without your help throughout the past few years we would not of made it. Your physical and financial support has brought us to this wonderful state. let's continue this run for another year.

Now, what do these changes mean to you our volunteer? The first thing that comes to mind is that we will no longer ask you to help supply the kayaks and equipment. We have our own now. The wear and tear will be on our stuff not yours. As a volunteer you just need to show up. We will supply the other stuff.

Back to the details. We will need four to eight volunteers on Saturday, April 25th. The meeting place will be the Cracker barrel Store, located one block North of the bridge on Sauvies Island. We will meet there at 7:30 am and caravan it to the launch spot. We will supply breakfast morsels and Lunch.

Come one , come all we will see you on the 25th of April.

I'm not familiar with Portland.
I cut a couple of maps from Google Earth, I'm pretty sure I've got the correct location.
If I'm wrong, please advise.
Thanks, Bill

Skidplate has just volunteered. The final total for participants is 14, The volunteer total is 10. Way the go Gentlemen. At this point we will have 24 kayaks on the water.  I was out at the site today and hooked into several legal and oversized ones. I was there for an hour and hooked into 6 or 7. It should be a lot of fun.

The specifics:

Who:     Heroes On the Water
What:    Gilbert River Sturgeon Event
When:   Saturday, April 25th. Volunteers 7:30, Veterans 8:30
Where: Volunteers Meet at the Cracker Barrel store, just north of the Sauvie Island Bridge at 7:30 AM. Veterans go to the West side unit of the Sauvie Island Reserve and follow the signs and ribbons to the event. Specific directions are on the HOW Facebook page.

Come prepared for the elements. The weather forcast keeps changing. As usual Volunteers please bring what you will need to be on the water. If you have an anchor setup, please bring that also. As stated above, we have our own fleet and will be able to outfit the participants from that.

See you all out there on Saturday!

Wobbler was up there this week. He laced into one that he couldn't budge off the bottom. Oh yeah!

Phil Pirone of Pro-Cure has stepped up to help out...

I'll be bringing with me, a mix of 14 bottles of Pro-Cure to supply the Veteran participants.
I believe it will be 7 of the Bloody Tuna and 7 of Sturgeon Frenzy.

I'll see you at 7:30 on Saturday.

Funny how that bottom moved upstream, then downstream, around in circles till finally I broke the line off. Sort of like a slow motion bronco ride.
