At least one springer made it past Sellwood!
Thursday was a landmark day for me to catch my first spring chinook in a kayak!

Great Job Barb! Congrats.  That place looks familiar.  Were you trolling herring, or some other secret device?

Trolling a herring -- brined blue using the "springer clinic" recipe circa the same vintage (march 28 first thaw, refrozen multiple times), so hardly fresh.  I was using a sure spin helmet on the fast setting and it was twirling like a drill bit.  I lost another fish about 5 feet from the net from a frayed line that snapped...oh was I sad...until this picture!  Springer fishing makes me feel bipolar!

Way to get it done Barb.
That is an awesome fish and I am sooo jealous.
 I'm still batting 000..
I might have to come down to Portland to catch a damn springer....sheeeesh
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

I'm convinced that those Sure Spin helmets are great for old bait. Also, CONGRATS ON THE FISH!

Congrats Barb! That is a really snaggy area so you must have been fishing just right. "Bipolar", I can relate to the manic for sure but I try to avoid the deep depression on those down skunk days or when losing one at the boat. Thanks for sharing!

Congrats, Barb, that is F'n awesome.  Springer fishing tests everyone, that is what makes the successful catch that much more special.

That's awesome Barb!  The 1st of many I'm sure.

Congrats Barb! I almost need shades - that thing is so bright!
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.
