Rick, did you get over to the NW Paddlefest and give it a test drive?

oh, and Congrats!!

Yes I did. I had my eye on it for 3 months, finally paddled it and that was all it took. Can't wait to get it rigged and out on the water.

Well I just put a Deposit down and ordered a Kraken. I went back and forth between the Jackson vs Hobie, Paddle vs Peddle. For my 1st Kayak I went with the Paddle. Great value, set up to fish right out of the box, (needs electronics only) and a beast on the water. My Plan is to fish and paddle around sometimes NOT fishing. I figure once I have this boat for a while, I can get the GF a Hobie and borrow that on the off chance she doesn't want to fish ;-) . I will update you on the maiden voyage once it gets here.

Rick, It was good to meet you on Saturday. I heard you got the Kraken from Kayak Academy folks. At some point this summer we'll fish together and I'd like to try it out. And good plan to get the Jackson and a Hobie, I've got the same combo in my fleet. Life's too short to own just one type of fishing kayak.

Yeah it's like Golf, you need a garage full of boats for all the different fishing you gonna do. I thought I'd start with a stable Paddler than I can use all over before I invest in a peddler. we will see. Let me get through this summer first. The we will expand the fleet.

Mojo Jojo, which kayak cart do you use with the Big Tuna?

I have a Seattle Sports Scupper Swift.  Works OK on the Big Tuna but not great.  The Scupper Swift is compact, sets up and breaks down easily into small parts that don't hog all the space in the rear hatch.  But (1) it doesn't really fit in the fore or aft pairs of narrow spaced scuppers.  I use the second-from-the-aft scupper for the Raymarine transducer so that's out.

Then (2) if I want to put all the gear in the boat when I haul it, the wheels can sometimes rub on the bottom of the boat.  I could put another spacer in but instead this neat little cart is being assigned to my wife's KC Kayak K12 (Realtree Camo).

What's the next best idea?  A C-Tug?

2015 Jackson Big Tuna (tandem) (dark forest)
2016 Hobie Outback LE (screamin' orange)
2014 KC Kayaks K12 (the better half's, in camo)
2015 Jackson Kraken 13.5 (bluefin)

Raymarine Dragonfly; BB Angler Aces; Kokatat Hydrus 3L SuperNova Angler Dry Suit; Stohlquist Fisherman PFD

Update, Finally picked up my boat.

Step One: Put this monster on the car and get it home. (I will admit I had some reservations about this beast and my car, I was looking at trailers, trucks, additional racks, I didn't know what to expect) I resurrected a set of Thule bars I've had for about twenty years, I had carried river kayaks on it on cross country trips, but never a boat this big. Turns out, not big deal. Threw it up on the roof, tied it down snug and secure, and tested it on the highway at 65mph. no problems. (except the lifting part, still getting used to that)

Now I got it I am aiming at putting it into the water this weekend and paddle it around and practice my self rescues, do a little trout fishing to see how I might like to set it up for fishing.

Keep your eyes out for the Kraken will be released in my next post.

Now I are really open for Gear advice and fishin tips...

She's a fish killer. Nice choice on color. Dodo (Dorado) has got to be my favorite.

I second that emotion, both in effect and eye appeal.

I have a 2014 Cuda 12.  Great fishing machine. It's finally set up the way I like it w/FF and downrigger setup.  Just picked up a OC trident 13 too.  Haven't even splashed that one yet.
