Anyone ever poked around the Rock Island area on the Willamette?, above the falls?  Roughly here:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&hl=en&msa=0&ll=45.321496,-122.664242&spn=0.036693,0.088921&t=h&z=14&msid=106702450349202881562.0004531a37a4a4ea2818c

From what I have read, the rocks here create some shallow side channels where power boats can't go, and might be a nice close-in option for fishing without worrying about being run down by ski boats.  Looks like ideal small mouth habitat.

Anyone up for an exploratory trip?

I've put in at Willamette park, but didn't quite make it up to Rock Island.  Have yet to fish the Willamette from my yak. I would definitely be down for some exploratory fishing, just as long as I can borrow the gf's car (she's the one with the rack).  Let me know when your thinking.

Sounds good to me. Maybe an afterwork trip during the week?

Gotta love the look of the power line cuts from above   >:(

I have a friend who lives down up and around the bend from there next to the boat launch at Hebb Park. His favorite float is Hebb to Willamette park and shuttle back. He said the water gets kinda skinny and fast at Rock Island but he stops there for lunch (he does not fish ::) ). Willow Island and New Era Bar also look pretty fishy.

That sounds like longer than an evening paddle after work though (he said its a 2 hour trip just paddling)  I got a trailer that'll carry 4 boats easy. Sounds like a day trip too me. But I'd be up for a out and back trip from Willamette Park as well. In fact, that sounds like a plan for this evening.

Wish I could make it tonight with ya guys.  Promised the gf we would hit up the Tualatin tonight though, then moving a buddy tomorrow.  If anyone wants to go Wed-Friday though let me know!

I'd be up for an evening trip any day this week. I'll be working until about 5pm each day.

Can't make it tonight... my work commute is a pain in the ass, I need to plan ahead and bring my boat with me to work to do after hours trips.  That said, I'm free in the evenings this week.  How about tomorrow or Wednesday for a Willamette Park trip?

Either evening will work for me. Wali tried to get me out there today but I've been running errands and just got back.  Time for some final tweaking on the anchor system.
