As most of you know Pmmpete is coming from Big Sky Country aka Montana to fish the May Day event and I'm going to try my hardest to get him in the ocean. From what I'm looking at we got a shot at it on Monday if anyone else can make it post up. If the surf looks too rough to punch through then we jam south and try depot bay.

I'm trying to decide what I'm doing on Sunday.  Monday will most likely just be for driving home.

We will fish Sunday as well just not sure where yet Pete will be heading this way starting out today and is fish for sturgeon with Minnowmagnet in Pdx Thursday. Since Pete is my long distance guest I want to present him with all the options and see where he wants to go for Sunday. Here's some options Lost Lake (Clatsop County),Lake lytle, one of the other lakes in the area, tide water in the Nehalem River or around Manzanita, any other suggestions.

I'm planning to arrive in Garibaldi Thursday afternoon, hopefully with aching arms after a productive day of Sturgeon fishing with Minnowmagnet.  I'm planning to spend Friday and Saturday fishing in Tillamook Bay, and trying to learn about that fishery from the many experienced kayak fishermen who are coming to the tournament.  If the weather and waves discourage us from fishing in the ocean on Sunday, I'm happy to do go with the flow and fish wherever other kayakers decide to fish.  But I'd prefer to fish for things which I can't catch in Montana, such as Salmon.  That would be more fun than something like trout fishing.

I don't really see an ocean window that I would pursue at this point. That transition between swell systems on Monday looks awfully short and unstable right now. It may get better though. I guess if you're on the coast already it's an easier call since you don't have the early drive from the valley.

I agree with Jeff-- Monday doesn't look to be real comfortable.
Pete would probably prefer to catch salmon or sturgeon. Like he said "they don't have those fish in Montana".
Any offers should keep that idea in mind.
Life is short---live it tall.

She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

If magic seaweed's prediction holds I can't see why a 6 am to noonish isn't doable? And yes I know it changes daily.

I'm sure there are very few clams in Montana worth going after, so maybe try and scratch out a limit of steamers, softshells, butters or gapers from Netarts or even Tilly bay.  Low tides for Sun, Mon, and Tues are at 0 or slightly negative in the morning.

One of the suggestions I offer when I talk to people about judging what is or is not a good time to hit the salt is to avoid short windows of calm between larger swell predictions.  The data that you're looking at is simply a very good guess.  So if those bigger swells decide to show up early or the current swells don't taper off as quickly as originally predicted, then your morning out on the ocean is not going to be fun at best.  Since you're on the coast, you have the benefit of getting up in the morning, driving over and taking a looksie to see if it's do-able.  If it isn't, move on to your plan B.  These are just suggestions though.  Be safe, good luck, have fun!

I always have a plan b and usually a plan c Fugative and Monkeyfist know all about that. That's the hope! That it's a go upon looking, if not were only 30-40 minutes back to our starting point. I'm also one to watch the waves for 10-20 minutes before trying to go. And always welcome the insight of the more experienced guys on here. Thanks rawkfish , if we make it out we will post up some pics.

Hope the sturgeon fishing with Minnowmagnet was a blast!  If the tentative surf plans fall through, it looks like they are re-opening the Columbia for spring Chinook this weekend:

We may only get a couple of hours to fish but it's a go for tomorrow at Pacific City. Myself ,Pmmpete,Smokeyangler, smilingkayaker are confirmed at a 5:30-5:45 parking lot meet up if it's not a go we run for somewhere better and hope for fish.
