hi folks. I'm thinking of mounting a Folbe Jr on my Jackson Coosa. Does anyone have experience with Folbe's on a kayak?

And if so do you have any thoughts on pedestal mounts vs flush mounts?

Many thanks.

I use a flush mount. It's not 100% secure for some reason. But I love my folbe too much.  I hear I may need to cut the hole bigger. I bet pedestal licks better but I transport kayak upside down so done like anything sticking out. But if you can mount it so it's not protruding a pedestal might be ok.

I recently switched to a Folbe and I love it.  So much easier to put in and out without leaning over to pull it out the end of the Scotty's.

I've been pondering a Scotty Orca, since I already have a Scotty flush mount installed.

Any idea if the Folbe will fit in a Scotty base? I've read that it will, and I've read that it won't...

The Folbe does not fit in the Scotty base but...   I was bummed out by that after getting my Folbe and having spent a lot on the Scotty extension arm.  I found the the Folbe DOES fit the the cogs on the extension arm so I was good to go.

Ken- Thats very interesting! I love the versatility of my Scotty  flush mount plus Gear Head. Sounds like I can keep all the benefits of the Scotty stuff and just bolt on a Folbe in place of my Scotty Powerlock!

Thanks for sharing!

FYI- I don't think the Folbe Jr would fit fat-butted rods very well (like the Ugly Stick Tiger, for example).

I'm leaning toward the regular sized Folbe for that reason.

Just ordered the pedestal mount Folbe (reg size) and the 4" extension post.

I'll report back after its installed...

Well here's my report back on the Folbe. I installed the "pedestal" mount, along with the Folbe 4" extension.

This thing kicks ass. It feels VERY solid, and it's stupid easy to get the rod out of the holder in a hurry even if it's under heavy tension.

I only have one very minor complaint. The Folbe sometimes falls shut after you remove your rod quickly. Then you have to manually open it back up before you stick your rod back in. Not a big deal at all, and I'm sure with a little more practice it won't happen anymore.
