Dead as a door nail out there.  Maybe it actually is over.  We did hear of one fish caught.  About 15 boats.

When the water gets this warm they start thinking more about getting upriver to make babies and less about hanging out and snapping at stuff.  There may be fish to catch in the Columbia when they re-open it soon - that water is cooler.  I've been thinking more about other fisheries lately.

even the lower Columbia is quite a bit warmer than usual.  was on the water yesterday looking for salmon, and was reading 58-59 degree water temps.

Was curious if anyone here has run the main Santiam from I-5 to Buena Vista in a kayak. Any hazards? I have bank fished there a bunch off and on but not had much luck. I know the salmon are passing through there in significant numbers now. I was there last week and there were plenty to look at but no biters for me.

Three years ago I did that float three times in late May and early June. Its a very easy float with no major hazards. Lot of good gravel bars to pull out on and fish from. I only caught 1 springer and 1 steelhead. However, one day I saw a backwater eddy and counted 17 summer steelies sitting in it. That was really cool. Doubt you'll see that this year with the Willamette steelhead counts in the dumps.
