Dampainter,

Looks like a good setup.  You may need to play with how your reel clips onto the bouy so it stays as in line with the current as possible to minimize drag.

How will it attach to your kayak?  you may want to put a carabineer on the end so you can clip and unclip with one hand, but otherwise this looks very similar to my setup.
The one I had like his actual pulled my two small floats under because it acted like a planer of sorts in the current going across it , if it's flat in the water the flow actually pulls it under, I think you were with me that day we had to wait till slack and run back out to the corner of tilly bay to get it. The PVC one I fashioned after yours was the bomb. I'll have to dig into the desktop PC and see if I can trudge it up unless you got your pictures handy.

the trolly i am using works great! instead of using the figure 9 clip today am going to put a ram ball on the gear track. a couple half hitches, done, should be able to release with one hand with the ball easier than the figure 9 clip? will know after this morning which is the better.

Quick release shackle girth hitched to the anchor trolley with a piece of cord on the release pin. I then keep the bail out cord in a zig zag cleat next to my seat do I can release it.

where can i find one of those? the ram ball on the gear track worked better than the clip. thinking may have to rig up a  jam cleat for a track mount as that is the only thing easiest to unanchor with one hand while the other is holding the rod with a huge fricken fish on or something like that that i can see.

West marine sells them or search for a quick release shackle. I recommend using one that has at least a 2000 pound release weight rating.

Use a jam cleat. This thing needs to be as simple as possible. Make it so you can quickly pull and throw without even needing to look at it.

I used a zig-zag cleat, and it's easy to release my anchor system with one hand while fighting a fish with the other hand, but a jam cleat would be even easier and faster to release.

I hate to bump up an old thread but this is just what I have been looking for... Can these plastic tie wire wheels be purchased from a localish source or is online the only option? I search home depot and lowes and only saw the metal variant at HD, nothing at lowes from what I found. It does look like Amazon carries them though for about $24.

I got mine from Amazon. I figured it would be easier to order one, and get it in two days, than running around town looking for it.

Call me a cheap bastard, but this is what I have been using since 2009. $8.50  https://www.amazon.com/Bayco-KW-110-Storage-Center-100-Feet/dp/B000GAS3K8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464842104&sr=8-2&keywords=extension+cord+spool  It works great ans easily fits over 300 feet of 1/4 line.  I use three different colors of the cheap fluorescent colored ropes from Home Depot. That way I know roughly how much line is out.The whole system (not including anchor) is about $25.

How are you "locking" the spool once you've reached your desired depth?

I buy a couple of large metal clips from home depot and clip one to the anchor line and the open area on the sides. I then run a line between that clip and my anchor buoy. Similar to this,

This system works great & one word of caution I have to offer is to make sure you "lock" your anchor line to the spool in a way that the spool cannot spin in the current & thus double over onto your release line that's attached to your kayak. This will tie up your release line & prevent you from detaching from your anchor in case of an emergency, or  better yet "fish on." If there's ever any rotational movement twisting up your lines in the current you better pull up & fix it ASAP to minimize liability.
