OK, so I'll assume that since I am the previous years winner (all should bow down before me), that I should volunteer to run this years side event (unless somebody else wants to do it).

I think that the rules should stay the same as last years.

$5 entry into the side bet
1/2 the pot goes for Heaviest fish, the other half to HOW
This style of fishing pole only http://www.shakespeare-fishing.com/Shakespeare%C2%AE-Barbie%C2%AE-Tackle-Kit/1348889,default,pd.html#start=6
No modification to the pole except you can change the line out (most of us use braid)
Verification by video or witness

Anything I'm missing?

It doesn't have to be Barbie, just that type of rod.  Mine is a Cars that beeps and revs it's engine.

Mine is an Iron Man pole

It does have 30 lbs Powerpro on though.........

Amazing what those little poles can pull out of the water.

Last year mine was 9lb 15 oz.  I think the year before was Nate with a 14lb fish?

Those pole are great as long as the front of the reel doesn't fly off!!

How much line can you normally fit on there?

Under normal situations you shouldn't be any deeper than 100' of water. I think Iron Man has about 150 yards of 30 lbs Powerpro. Doubt that you would ever need more than that.

14 lbs sounds about right.  I did find that the plastic threads that hold the spool to the rod flex under pressure but the reel is small enough to cup with your hands.
I may bring 2 barbie rods out with me this year, one for trolling and a second for jigging.

150yrds Mark?  I think I could only get on about 100ft.  hhhmmm!

I keep looking for them to go on sale so I can get at least one more.  I didn't use any rod except my Cars pole during the tourney.  I could have had a full limit of nice fish if I kept everything.

If you have a nice fish on, cupping the front of the reel is a good idea. DAMHIK :D

Im in! Ive been only fishing with a barbie pole.  Do you want to keep it single fish or 4 species? The reel hold enough 50# power pro to get down to 80ft. I am using 20 or 30# for ORC.  I did break 2 poles at Hobuck last year, so im going to bring a few to the ORC.

This is what I got at Hobuck last year. (35" 14# Lingcod)

LOL.  This should be good.

I have been using a 4wt for the challenge for kings and butts but maybe I will try this for a few laughs...and a few big fish up here in AK.

Good luck!

Rudy, if you hook into a halibut with a barbie pole up there, make sure you post video!  You can find Youtube clips of Barbies with salmon and cod and rockfish, but I haven't seen one with halibut yet...    ;D  Would love to see you haul in a good big flattie on one!!!
