  Hey guys,
Looking over past threads of former ORC's is entertaining and very time consuming. But I'm retired so I get that option to do so.
On 2014's ORC opening page this was posted as a list of sponsors March 21,2014
Damhik-----copy and past didn't work. So I will invite anyone who is interested in the prizes of the past to go check out this link to ORC 2014 Official Announcement
http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=12766.0

Organizers did a tremendous job last year securing some top notch stuff and I'd say everyone came away pretty happy. In fact , I will say that we all came away as winners. Even HOW and Neighbors for Kids.

I know that this years organizers are working hard to get all their ducks in a row for this year and that they are very busy with that task ... it sounds like a vocal few want to see the promised list of prizes for this year . And that has not been posted yet but be patient some more.
Please be understanding that this year has a "new hired gun " as Paul put it and he does have to make his bones (money) for credible  NWKA status. So I guess that I need to apologize to CJ Sieber and TJ for MY (and maybe some others) impatience when asking for details that have been promised about aspects of this years ORC for awhile.

And if the prizes determine whether you attend ORC or not--- the current implication of prizes for this year sounds okay. Just be patient.....sooner than July 10th---- it should be posted. And take a look at last years stuff--- pretty amazing list .

I truly hope that no one's priority is just the prize list .
ORC has always been and I hope will always be so much more than that.

One more thing then I'll shut up....

I will not be able to donate any Chainsaw Carving or WoodBurning Trophies this year. Sorry guys....... I know I have the last 3 years... just ain't gonna happen this time.

Well said Mark.

As mentioned before I think the odds are low that I'll make ORC this year.  It pains me to even consider missing it as it's such an awesome party.  The struggles with Next I think are just some issues related to them maybe biting off more than they thought they were.  I'm sure it'll come together just fine in the end.

I expect that, if y'all want me to, that I'll take back the taco feed next year.  I might even be able to figure some ways to make that part run smoother and produce a better result.  I know folks were generally reasonably happy with the job I did, but I can see areas for improvement and I hope to put that to use next time.

It should be noted that the official ORC 2014 announcement post was edited many many times between March 21st and July 5th.  I don't believe the full list of sponsors was finalized in March ( or April, or May, or possibly even June)

I reckon I should have guessed that Brian.....my bad.

I'm just trying to get some more positive vibes going... and wanting newer folks to do a little searching. Lots of info in the past we all can learn from.

I'm trying to keep things more positive as well by reminding folks that ORC prize lists have always evolved over time.

+1 on everything but the apologize & shut-up parts. You were civil & didn't cuss anyone out. You got nuthin' to apologize for Bro.

Members being able to see the evolution of the coming event over time is a good thing. It helps build excitement & makes the lead-up more interesting, imo. On the other hand, continual bandying of $$ amounts & vague promises begins to sound a little like a sales pitch, & untoward surprises can usually elicit something other than praise from the rank & file. Cool belt buckle, btw. I think ya ought to wear it this year.

Ho Hum   Ho Hum    Ho Hum....

Seeing as how the "Official ORC 2015 " thread has quieted down to almost nothing the past few days , maybe it is time to generate some more enthusiasm for our event. Time is getting close. While those that have been to ORC before know from the past how cool the event is--- teasing with a list of sponsors and prizes (including Capt. Bags as part of the admission fee) can help ORC grow and get more people involved with this sport.

There is a planning committee meeting this week ???
I sincerely hope that they will listen and possibly incorporate some of the suggestions that have been offered in the official thread. Have to admit guys-- been some great suggestions put forth. I too have volunteered to help with future planning but my distance from PDX (150 miles) did not make that practical. So we trust in the existing committee to help this event grow and try to improve. Let's hope it will. (But no pressure on you guys) we still have 6 weeks to go.

So, how about it ,"planning committee ? Instead of false promises and saying information will be coming soon (for how many weeks?) give us something concrete to re-build enthusiasm and get folks pumped up again. Post some of the sponsors on the 1st page of "the Official ORC 2015" thread and maybe on the home page of NWKA too. At this point the only sponsors mentioned are NRS and Raymarine   . Hell put it on Face Book if you feel the need.

Has exclusivity prevented other sponsors like Scotty, Kone Zone, Pro Cure , Diawa , Lowerance , Yak Attack , Bending Branches , Lancer and many others from coming on board this year ? Inquiring minds would really like to know..........

How about some of the other many threads that showed so much interest last year. I'm talking about tactical threads , food threads , rules threads , camping threads and others. Last year there were 17 different threads hot about ORC. This year--- not so much... Does that say something to anybody else ? or is it just me ?

As I have said before--- I want ORC to grow and be as good as it can be.
I can't be alone in this thinking--- but it sure feels a lot different this year.

Integrity (being honest and forthcoming) has always been ingrained in my life. When I say I'm going to do something--- it happens . In spades !!! Making excuses for failed behavior just leaves you with that---AN EXCUSE. What good does that do-------NOT ONE BIT.

Hope to see more people getting pumped up about ORC 2015. Let's make it happen...... please...

One more question--- why can we only fish until 2:00 and not 3:00 PM ?

FWIW, I think the cutoff for weigh in has always been 2PM.

That is what it says on last years 1st page. SORRY
I had read somewhere in the body of last year that it was 3.

It wasn't 100% finalized until July 9 last year.

I lurked, I became concerned and decided to do something about it. There were some very pointed discussions focusing on certain individuals. As one tried to diffuse others were egging others on. I thought that I had hit the wrong button and was looking at iFish. But, to my dismay, the page was NWKA. So, rather than join the fray I went straight to the source and said some things that I now regret. Instead of becoming angry he invited me  to today's meeting.

As a bystander, I listened intently as we went through the list of grievances put forth on the forum . As a competitor, I was impressed with the focus on the prize list as it looks today. As an individual, I am very impressed with the restraint that was demonstrated when cool, awesome donations were brought up. Rather than post and then have to change or retract a prize, they are waiting for confirmations. It seems to me that the NA crew is working to present a tournament that will more than meet the expectations of most of us. There will always be a few individuals that will never be happy.

Yes, there could have been improvements in many areas along the way to this point. But,  I am fairly sure that most of you will be impressed when the post from Next Adventure comes on-line in the upcoming days.

I don't think anyone was expecting a 100% all now list, post it up as it is offered up. Also the biggest problem I THINK people are having is when someone says there going to post something up and then fails too. If you can't post it yet don't mention it. Just my thought though so don't "" me on it. Just my $0.02

Thank you for the insight, Wobbler. I laughed at your "I thought I was looking at iFish" - that's the way it feels to me too.

For my part, I've given up trying to get anything out of the ORC announcement thread. We're about 50/50 on going this year. My biggest issue at this point is the constant message that just because some of us are interested in the competition aspect that somehow we "don't get it" or are lesser human beings. In my opinion the food, fellowship, and money for charity are all awesome because they surround a a kayak fishing tournament.

Your post gives me some hope that the tournament aspect is indeed important to the organizers as well.  Thanks again.
