Nice  video.  What's with the big tangle in your buoy line?  Is that a bungee shock absorber tied in to that mess?

That was a mess. You're probably lucky it didn't pull a straight line on the surface after you stuck it. You might have busted a finger in one of those loops. GREAT ACTION!

Yeah, that was a bungee chord that Ron incorporated into the line when he was putting this thing together and it did end up being a tangle magnet.  I'll be taking that part out and using the line on a different flying gaff setup or maybe a harpoon.

Great footage!  So why would you want to swap out that gaff?  It looks to be an improvement over a regular shark hook.

If you look closely when I sink the gaff clip into its mouth but before the fish starts thrashing you'll notice that the clip is bent off to the side of the hook point instead of being lined up with it and making a connection.  The idea is solid, I just may need to get another, more beefier model fabbed up.

Just watched this (again). I love it! The other video is great too with the other catches.

I love the capture of the moment and how much fun you're having out there. Fantastic.

Rawkfish are you using a Daiwa Lexa? I own a Lexa but have always used a tiburon smart shift for PAC Hali's.

Yes, that is a Lexa 300 power handle and it handled all the 'buts I caught that weekend like a champ.

Awesome!  But I think a bungee attached to anything that can snap back at you and hurt you is a bad idea. A smaller secondary float to ease some of the shock might work. Seems like that gaff could knock you out or worse impale you if the fish ran and somehow the gaff came unbuttoned. Maybe not.

Still an awesome fish!!!!!

Awesome, think I will use my Lexa on a 700M Calstar as my heavy jig stick  and use tiburon for heavy bait. What line do you use. I have 40# power pro on my Lexa 300

My mainline on that reel is 50 lb spectra.  40 lb would probably work just fine.
